The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

We were in New York and afraid for our lives!
You have a right to be! I was in Times Square a couple of years ago, and we were having lunch at Planet Hollywood. All of a cop slammed someone up against the window outside and arrested him! :-o

Did you see the follow up article at 2225? Initial tests show toxins in horses' stomachs

I searched the stables and there are several good articles but none mentioned the chemical. Sadly 2/3 of the horses were his and very expensive. He seems to have suffered the most lost. You never want anything to happen to another horse you are responsible for but to loose that many of your own, has to hurt.

Doing really well. He got his shoes reset yesterday and we left the pads off this time, to see how he does without them. So far so good. Next reset I'm taking him to the vet for x-rays, make sure everything is falling into place the way we want it, and the shoer well reset him there.

He's sure running and bucking and farting this morning.

Mornin', Beaker!

Hair, we're gonna be rich, we came up with a treatment for gas! Forget Gas-X, just start bucking.

I think it's gonna be a tough sell, and regardless, I need more coffee before I feel like trying.

Is your weather any better there yet? Still humid here, although they are calling for temps to drop into high 70's/low 80's. Somehow I don't believe em.

It is humid here today also. We had some thunderstorms late yesterday afternoon. Mix of sun and clouds today. Yes, it is suppose to cool off. Good thing, I hate having the house all closed up, with A/C on.

It is expensive and I've found out the cheap stuff doesn't work as well. I tried buying on line but you go into a heavy weight item price. My horses are doing ok but I'm having trouble with my dog. We spray the yard but she keeps getting ticks all over. Dog shampoos and dips weren't keeping them off. So...I went to horse spray. I spray her too and wipe her face and ears. Don't know what it does to her but it's working with the ticks.

I use Frontline Plus on my dogs and have nto had problems with fleas or ticks in a long time. The horses get ticks when they go out riding and bring them in to the pasture and since hte pasture butts up to the back yard I am lucky the dogs are not infested. I have tried that Spot On treatment for horses, supposed to repel flies and ticks and gnats for up to 2-3 weeks, it is not as good as soaking them with fly spray every day but is better than nothing and is about $12 for a card of 3.
