The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I tip well if the service was really good. My husband tips well regardless, even for poor service. He rolls his eyes or swats at my hand sometimes because I'll remove some of it if I thought the service was poor. I guess I get that from my grandmother. She would pick up tips and put it in her pocket and say stuff like. "People get paid to do a good job. If you want to give your money away, I'll take it"

I ask for exemptions from the manager and they always oblidge. Funny thing is, I often give more than what they would have deducted but I feel I should decide, not them.

Do I have to do that same ride again? It's gorgeous up there, but ~man~ that's a long ride for us... It was a lot of work for us lazy weekenders :~)

Try getting lost in the forest for 9 hours on horseback!

I have been just lurking here lately, been pretty busy here at work, putting in 10 hour days. Finally it is slowing down a little. Enjoyed the pictures and stories from Becky's trip.

I agree with you that tipping should be your option, not a set rate the restraunt expects. That could be some heafty tip if you are ticketed and leave the green on the table.

I was in New York City a while back and we ate at Tavern on the Green in Central Park. There was 3 of us and we were figuring the bill (and a big one it was) and gave the waiter our money. We were waiting for change to make the tip. The matre de (sp) came up to us and told us we did not give the waiter a big enough tip! Pretty presumptious if you ask me!

It is an interesting place. I went with Frogs sister one year (Westminster KC dog show) and she was like Becky with the straight trees! Always looking up. It is a wonder she did not fall down a manhole! LOL.

OMG, I can't believe they did that to you. I agree with Cindy, I would have asked for my change. I don't care if it's a 5 star restraunt of chik-fil-a they should pay the staff better if they have to demand more a tip.

If I remember right, a lot of the climbing is the last half mile to the trail head.

If ~I~ remember right, we climb up to the top of the ridge, then go downhill into the camp, so there is a steep climb both ways.

There was a thread going on around here where this was discussed. Some felt 20% required. I wasn't very popular there though because I told them that I decided and that I tipped fast food servers better than high priced restaurants. These places Blade was talking about pay way more than minimum wage. I used to be thrilled is someone just left me change. It wasn't the money but that I did a good job. When we are expected to supplement incomes that drive is lost IMO.

Sorry about the heat and the flies but I will say it looks really nice and green there from the rain you got. Is Harley still in the yard?
