The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Its not good. Dr Richardson said the laminitis is about as bad as it can get. They peeled off 80% of the hoof wall because it had separated from the coffin bone. It is not good at all.

Oh dear... not good at all. Forgive me for sounding like a cynic, but I'm amazed at all the effort that they're putting into this horse.

Well, the owners want everything done possible as long as the horse is not suffereing or uncomfortable. Everyone there is emotionally attached to this horse and they are doing everything they can do to help him.

I don't know if you remember or not, but not too long ago somebody posted pictures of some poor horses feet that were so awful looking with laminitis that I could barely stand to look at them, and apparently that horse made it just fine after a hoof resection and proper trimming protocol was started. I'm also a member of the Equine Cushings Yahoo group and some of the things that those people over there go through with their horses feet could truely be called heroic efforts. Some of them have had horses that couldn't even stand up at all for months and have been to the point of having bed sores, but their horses never gave up and neither did the owners and eventually the horses got better and recovered. So it IS possible. It all just depends on the determination of the horse to survive and the owners to help, and it sounds like Barbaro's owners are nothing if not determined. I sure hope he makes it!

I think I remember that vaguely. It does bring hope. The vets surrounding Barbaro are doing the very best they can, which helps a lot. The Jacksons and Michael Matz are the greatest and I will never forget the love and care they are showing this horse. Anyone that is this dedicated is to be highly commended, including all those people in your group. If this horse does have to pass on, I think it will be easier to handle knowing he had the best possible care he could get. I have read articles about Dr Richardson and Barbaro could not have anyone better for a surgeon. God Bless them all.

OK - we finally took a couple pictures! Here's Becky getting to know her vacation horse :~)

Cyn making a big production out of trying to intimidate Mia... But Mia could care less.

We're ~almost~ ready to get off our duffs and do something with the horses, but it's hard to get motivated :~)

Mia's a nice looking girlie!

I take it Cyn and the pony are double-teaming Mia. You're right, she doesn't seem to care.

It took my mare several years to work herself up the pecking order in the pasture, but she is now Top Mare and doesn't stand much nonsense from anybody.

One of my mares, Farah, has always been top dog in the pasture - doesn't matter who she's in with. When I got the Arab mare several years ago, she and Farah recognized kindred souls and neither ever challenged the other. The Arab mare if not in with Farah, was also top mare with anyone else.

My mare is number 2 on the bottom of the herd. When we put her with the old nags caz she was getting roughed up too much she was the boss. The aggressive mares went on and I put her back. She went back to 2.

Saddle Club Moot report!

Hullo everyone! We played with horses, starting with baths...

And ~look~ at Bay and Cyn's new halters!

Becky up on Mia :~D They seemed to get along just fine here at home. Mia's not a real complicated personality, she's pretty easy going all around - They'll do real well.

And Becky got on Bay a bit :~)

And I never gave Becky the camera :~) I probably won't get away with that all week, but so far so good :~D

It was short till just this past year, and every picture that has been posted of me till now, I had it pulled up.

Not sure I'm going to keep it long...still deciding.
