This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
LOL I took a nap too, but also, no massage. Oh well. We are not as blessed as Barbaro.
Now that looks like fun...:)

I'll wait for you in the shade somewhere, if there's shade to be found up there any more :~)
Good morning :) I'm up early, sipping coffee. We're going up to visit R&R's new place today.
sipping too:)
So how are they settling in?
I think Jenny and I are going to go to a Junior Rodeo and watch her niece run barrels. I've always really like Jr. Rodeo's, and it's been awhile since I've been to one.
Becky
Fun to watch kids do anything.... More fun than watching grownups most times!
I think they're settling in just fine. I've heard their house up there is really a neat house, lots of room to run :~)
So we need to see it!
Stopping by on the way to meet my Dad for breakfast and exchange of some stuff, it'll be a busy day!
I just checked our weather....looks like we are going to get some rain, might not be a rodeo today after all. But that's OK, we really need the rain.
Becky
I could have sworn I heard thunder a little bit ago. But nothing I can see coming!
Hey mom you there?
Yeah:)
Becky
You all are all playing today while all the talk of house cleaning yesterday has had me cleaning since about daybreak. Taking a break to check news while the floors dry. Have a great day :)
Not playing. Doing paperwork. I'm going out to the stables after church and see if I can get to the horses. Right now the bestI can do is watch RFD. Oh well. You have to be "a want to be" before you can be a "be", huh? :')
So true :) Hope you get to the horses this afternoon.
No I used to volunteer at an "ANIMAL" birth control clinic
where they do discount or free spay and neuter for the elderly pet owners, plus offer discount vaccinations.
Oh, Eddie and I were both grinning. He was egging me on but we decided to leave it alone. I sealed the envelpoe to keep temptation down though. Kind of made my day. Maybe he did it on purpose to lighten things up. Who knows:')
A 2 hour drive from my friend's house and a 20 mile detour, made me miss my Alison winning her Western Pleasure class with PJ. She was doing egg and spoon by the time I arrived. There were 6 left in the class and she dropped hers. No ribbons for 6th, but she did win her Western showmanship and a 4th in Western Horsemanship.
Too bad, you had to spend your Sunday cleaning. When you are working, it can be the only time you have. Kids will be gone all next week at fair, so I will get after the house then, when no one is around to bother me. I let them take my fifth wheel, against my better judgment. If it rains all week, like they predict, it will be a mess.
Barbaro is not doing well today
Update 185: Peter Brette just called (sunday 1pm). Barbaro is not doing as well as he had been yesterday. Peter had not visited Bobby, but had been talking to others. He did not have any details, but I could just tell in his voice he was pretty concerned (it was a short conversation). Peter may call later if he hears more, but now is the time to channel all positive energy for Bobby. If I hear more I will post.

I have no clue what "channeling positive energy" means, but I do know he needs lots and lots of prayers..
Well, maybe retirement here next year of so and then my weekends won't be spent cleaning all the time. I hope your fifth wheel comes back clean and polished, no matter what the weather. :)
Praying that he continues to heal well with no more set backs.
THEY REDID HIS SURGERY LAST NIGHT!!!!!!!

Veterinarians treat Barbaro for infection, replace plate and screws in injured leg
July 9, 2006
KENNETT SQUARE, PA Late Saturday, July 8, Dr. Dean Richardson, Chief of Surgery, replaced the plate and many of the screws that had been inserted into Barbaros injured hind leg on May 21. Barbaro had developed some discomfort and a consistently elevated temperature so we believed it was in his best interest to remove the hardware and thoroughly clean the site of the infection, said Dr. Richardson. We also applied a longer cast on that leg for additional support.
While the main fracture is healing well, the pastern joint that doctors are attempting to fuse continues to be the area of concern. This joint was stabilized with new implants and a fresh bone graft.
The recovery process from anesthesia took longer with this surgery, but Barbaro is now back in his stall in the Intensive Care Unit, said Dr. Richardson. He is receiving pain medication, antibiotics and other supportive care.
Barbaro continues to be monitored closely in the Intensive Care Unit of the George D. Widener Hospital at the University of Pennsylvanias New Bolton Center. Dr. Richardson emphasized that the complications are potentially serious. Both Barbaros owners and trainer continue to visit him at least twice daily.
