The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Goodness, it's tiny! Was it orphaned? Does the email give any background to whether it made it?

The only thing the e-mail said was that the pictures were supposedly taken in Oklahoma (but you know how THAT goes) and that after the horses wandered off, the mother doe came and claimed the fawn. I gather that mother deer routinely hide their fawns in the brush and go off to feed and they just instinctively lay there until she gets back, but I guess the baby got confused when 2 BIG 4-leggeds came up. The classic "Are you my Mother?" story. ;o)

Well, that's nice then! Yes, they do hide their fawns, and the fawns aren't supposed to go off wandering :~)

Fawns Gone Wild! ;o)

The little bugger doesn't look much bigger than a Chihuahua.

I heard that the Doe did eventually find the baby again and they are both back together.

UPDATE ON BARBARO

Update 174: Just spoke to Peter Brette who visited Bobby today. It does appear his level of discomfort has improved a little, but there is still some discomfort for which they are trying to determine the cause. I asked Peter how he looked physically, and he said he looked well, was eating etc. so that is good. Peter also reiterated that the bone-healing process is as good as they could possibly expect, if not better. Please keep thinking your positive thoughts for Barbaro.

Just got back in from the barrel race. Kristy got first again, but there were only 4 competitors. This was a make up due to rain, so they think people just didn't know they were doing it. I did take some pictures they are loading.

Is that photo shopped or real? The horses act like they know it's a baby.

I took a few pictures of some of the other riders. I thought this little girls horse was cute with the pink leg wraps:

A little POA.

Kristy warming up.

Kristy's run, turning the 1st barrel.

Another competitor.

The POA coming in for her run. I couldn't catch it, but the little bugger tried to buck between the 1st and 2nd barrel during her exhibition and her run, but the kid handled it well.

This is an after exhibition. The horse is a stud, and looks like he needs lots of work.

JP getting a ride on mom's horse.

Those are really cool pictures. I've seen some newborn fawns (stuffed:( at a museum here. It was a big surprise how small they are.

Hmm, I wouldn't think so. Wouldn't the vets see it coming?

I was watching tv about a couple in Stephenville that gave up the city, moved to the country and are raising miniature donkeys. I'm going to ask my SIL if she knows them. I would like to tour if they show them.

Yea, something is, but so far they haven't been able to figure out what. His temperature is good, he is eating well, all his vitals are fine, but he doesn't seem to be comfortable in the cast like he once was. Mabe it could be he is just getting tired of it? I am sure they checked his skin good after they took the cast off Wednesday, considering the first time they checked his skin they found itty bitty bumps from rubs. His other foot just had the abcess that he is getting topical antibiotics for and the vet didn't think it was a serious problem.

I'm loving all the photos! I'll have to come back when I have more time. Here's my dog and my horse. Horse is a 23 year old Arabian I've had since he was ten months old.
