The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Yeah, I would've missed you but would've had no idea what happened to you since I didn't even know y'all were going riding.

You are right, we need to make sure someone knows where we are and when we should be back. That is why I worry about you riding by yourself. At least if we got lost or something happend we would have been together. Note to self, notify family or friends when going riding, when, where, time out/time in.

Nothing scarier then getting lost in the forest. We all have those stories of getting turned around and losing direction. When my daughter was about 11 or 12, we were riding in one of the bigger State Parks in Southern Ohio. I thought we were going on a small loop for a late afternoon ride. We have arrived late, after not being able to get into another place. That small loop turned out to be a lot longer and it started to get dark. Good thing, my husband had paid attention and noticed a gravel road as we were pulling in to camp. We followed that out to the main road. It was pitch dark, by the time we got back to camp. All along my daughter was a good trooper and didn't get scared. I was a little worried thou.

Bob's a diabetic for one, and they had two very tired horses (I figure if they hadn't been appys, they'd stopped and said the hell with it)

My husband is a heart patient and has a pacemaker so we try not to go to places where we don't have cell coverage at least in part of the area, that is why we do not go to Talladega often. We did not see even one other rider on the blue trail, at least on the other trails you come across riders if something should happen.

I can tell you if we had to go much farther we we would have been carrying two very tired horses cause they were at the "to hell with it" door!

Alison is such a cutie! And apparently quite the little horse woman too. Don't worry about boring us, we like any kind of horse pictures.

I love going to the local horse shows to watch the little ones compete. They are so cute when they are up on those big horses. Never tire of seeing pictures!

She is absolutely adorable. It would be cool if she stayed colored like that :)

I think I'd have been more than a "little" worried. I don't think any of the riding trails anywhere are well marked in that you could call out and say this is where I am. A friend who rides alone alot rides with a GPS unit that can show her where she is and where she started.

Oh my. You were so fortunate to get through safely.

Tracey said she kept telling Sonny, just a little bit further, Mom's coming with the trailer :) and Bob was telling Fancy, you got to carry me out 'cause I can't walk and I'm depending on you.

I don't know if they understood but they acted like they did and just on trucking, climbing on hell of a hill to get out of the canyon and out to the highway. They said when they topped the hill and saw the truck and trailer lights sitting down on the shoulder of the highway, both the horses picked up.

We have one of those, but did not have it with us this time, batteries were dead. I was telling Gary that we were definitely going to keep it in the saddle bags!

We had some pretty hard hills to climb over the whole trail, up then down. Blade got to the point where he just could not get all the way up and would stop hapf way up to rest, that of course made him loose his momentum. He got to the point where he was going down hill side ways, probably due to his sore stifle.

Poor Blade - it says something for how good a horse he is though, that he kept going when it was so difficult for him. He's one to hang on to.

He is a good boy, and I definitely will be hanging on to him. He is a good trail horse, Frog raised him well. He can be a little lazy but he gave it all he could this weekend. They got some extra treats when we got back to camp.

Congrats to your granddaughter.
Just got home from work. Exhausted and itchy because I was working with insulating foam and now I have a fine dust all over me that doesn't want to seem to come off. Ugh.

Susie is only 5. I wouldn't think she was arthritic.
