This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Those wheels are the best thing since.............
I'm training him to take over infection control. I'm going to continue with education part time. I convert in two weeks. I was hoping to stretch the pay checks until Sept but it will be nice to have some time off. I'll be ok.
Ok, thanks all for the info. I was telling Jenny just today, that I'm going to get my seat changed to a window seat if at all possible.
I got the set of three cases from Walmart, a few shirts/blouses...I'll get some jeans next week then I'm set...
All those mountain peaks will be cool to see. Won't the pilot or someone tell us what we are looking at. They did when I flew to Vegas.
Becky
I've had great pilots who describe all the sights on the whole flight, and then other flights they've said nothing. The time we flew right over Mt. St. Helens and it was steaming, the pilot didn't say a WORD! :~0
I thought I saw somewhere that you'll be on a 757. Those are mostly new enough that they sometimes have these nifty tv screens at each seat, and one of the channels you can watch is a map of where you are in real time. We had that for our flight to Florida. Not on the way back though, it just depends on how the plane is outfitted.
Well I hope I get a talky one:), and one of those TV screens.
Becky
I hope so too. You should have clear skies over the west and should be able to see everything. Though I think it's almost as neat to watch the cloud tops when it's overcast down below :~)

He banked over to pass us pretty close, and banked away again. He was so fast, that even with us at cruise speed of a few hundred mph, he zipped by us and was out of sight in less than a minute.
Are you riding tomorrow? Kristy is coming up in the morning and we are going to ride for a few hours.
She's had some bad luck. That young colt she got this winter has come up stifled:(. She has no clue what happened, other them him just playing. The vet said it wasn't bad, but he needs to be turned out for a bout 2-3 months, and just left alone.
Becky
Huh... what's his symptom?
I don't think we're riding this weekend, unless maybe Sunday morning. I talked with Tiff and this weekend wasn't as good for them as next weekend. With the fireworks potentially going on, it's also probably better for us to stay close to home. We hope to finish the pasture mowing and the spring cleaning on the barn we should have done in the spring :~D
Everything's dusty. Have to have a clean barn for company :~)
Just an on again off again limp, and bump on his leg in the stifle area. Possibly from a kick from another horse.
That's right I forgot about fireworks...Surly as early as Kristy and I plan on going out we won't run into that. fingers crossed.
Well don't hurt yourself on my account:), I'm use to dusty barns.
Becky
Oh, and I bought a journal at the store today to keep track of dates, thoughts, impressions, etc...of my trip:). I did that on all the trips we took in the RV, and it's really fun to go back once in a while and read what you wrote, and it brings back things you didn't even write down.
I started tonight, by putting the details of my ticket purchases, and our shopping trip today...have to build the right amount of anticipation:)
Becky
The fireworks wouldn't so much be an issue for us on the ride, they'd be more of an issue (for us) for the panicky dogs left at home. And the poor pony would be alone... I just hate the 4th of July :~]
How fun :~D
You'll have to post excerpts, just the nice parts, LOL :~D
My mom did that for her trips, and I tell you, they were a neat thing to find, after she was gone, in her handwriting, having a great time on a trip. Even when she was sick, they'd talk about that... "Wasn't feeling well, so we stopped driving early and napped all afternoon at a motel along side the road. Got up later and felt better so we went out for a nice dinner" Stuff like that.
The 4th has never really been a problem for my animals, and the kids set them off last year right in the front yard. But I wouldn't relish being out in the woods on a horse and have them going off...
Becky
Yeah, that's the kind of stuff I try to write.
Jenny and I kept a journal of all the preparations for her wedding. That was fun, and is fun to go back a look at.
Becky
I wouldn't want that either!
It's funny, Bob decided to go, a couple years ago up to the horse camp at the forest for the 4th weekend, and bring all the horses, to get away from fireworks. A couple others from the backcountry horseman chapter decided to come too... and then.. about dark, a few of them went down by the trailer parking area and started setting off fireworks! He said "GODDAMIT THAT'S WHAT I WANTED TO COME UP HERE TO AVOID!"
LOL. I think you're just better to keep them in familiar area's where they know the terrain, and fence lines etc...
Becky
Tonight I don't expect a LOT of fireworks, we'll probably give all the horses Quietex, and leave them out. Tomorrow, and the rest of the nights till the 4th, we'll probably put the horses in. They really aren't too bad, especially if they have the Quietex.
Homer is the worst. If he hears ~anything~ no matter how distant, he whines and paws us. If it's a lot, his eyes bug out and he pants and he LEAPS into our laps and paws at us. We're going to drug him every night.
Gidget just barks at them. Can't tell if she's really upset, I think she's having fun. We may drug her the worst nights, but I don't like to give her the drugs (Ace promozone) because her eyes get real weird for like two days afterward. Like the membranes in her eyes get inflamed. I can't tell if they hurt, but she looks awful.
