I think you are the one in need of some remedial soccer education. The US had a great game yesterday. They created lots of chances including several while playing with only nine men.
As for the rankings you cite in a separate post, they are bogus. Anyone who ranks the US ahead of Italy (or England or Portugal) needs to reexamine their rating method. For realistic rankings check out World Football Elo Ratings. (Scroll to the middle of the page for the rankings.)

The Vatican play one friendly match against a club side 4 years ago and get ranked above Niue, Bhutan, Tibet, Kiribati, Eastern Samoa, Guam and Palau?!
So Switzerland is ranked below France - I don't think so since they just played to a tie. Mexico is ranked higher than the US - again I don't think so, we just beat them this year. Portugal is not that good, we beat them last year. Italy, well, we just tied them, so, not clear to me that this ranking system is any better than FIFA's.
