According to research firm Gartner, worldwide PC shipments totaled 57 million units in the first quarter of 2006, representing a 13.1 percent increase over the same period last year. But in that time, Apple's share of the worldwide market slipped from 2.2 percent to a mere 2.0 percent, the firm's data shows.

My apologies as well. My original post was an expression my surprise that someone would claim US Apple sales were only 2%.
Of course, that was not your claim at all. You very clearly stated you were speaking of worldwide sales....and as you imply, I did not read very carefully.

If Apple becomes a software company, I believe they will license Mac OS X to hardware vendors for resale with Apple-certified models.
