seems a rawwwwthuh simpleminded blade and basket. I'll see if I can get better images and find a replica rather than a survivor of the actual period.

Naval Boarding Cutlass
The Cutlass is a standard naval pattern, though it has become a firm favorite of the re-enactors of a piratical nature. The brass basket is distinctive and balances the 24 ½” blade well. A leather scabbard and belt frog are included.

that is the NEWER style British cutlass of the 1850 period.

the one i mean is the Napoleonic era blade, which is even simpler in form, though the blade is more "curved", if i remember correctly.

it was furnished with a plain black scabbard & frog, to fit the waist belt. (i suspect the "locally produced" product was CRUDE. there was a WAR on, after all)
