WASHINGTON, May 31 — After vowing to steer a greater share of antiterrorism money to the highest-risk communities, Department of Homeland Security officials on Wednesday announced 2006 grants that slashed money for New York and Washington 40 percent, while other cities including Omaha and Louisville, Ky., got a surge of new dollars.

Homeland security officials said the grants were a result of a more sophisticated evaluation process

"... feel like I have posted this before."

I don't remember seeing it before. It could have been on another thread.

If you decide to make decorative tsuba, keep me in mind.

i keep trying to find someone to make CSN boarding cutlasses.

as all the originals were STAMPED-out, i wouldn't think that remaking them would be difficult.

is there a difference between a CSN cutlass and a standard USN cutlass?
IIRC, Cold Steel makes the latter, in high-grade materials.

Nice picture of a cutlass here, about a third of the way down the page.

Only $125.00

Detachment 1, Company A, Confederate States Marine Corps = the CS honor guard for memorial services at graveside. (bugler, firing party, flag team, pallbearers, etc.)

an AUTHENTIC "full kit" for ceremonies, includes:

1. 1853 Enfield musket with bayonet/scabbard,

2. CSN cutlass or sword,

3. winter dress uniform,

4. summer dress uniform,

5. Jefferson boots (shiny side out),

6. British Royal Rifle Regiment leather gear,

7. great coat,

8. kepi with insignia

9. back pack with sleeping roll &

10.miscellaneous small items.

all that would cost at LEAST $ 4-5,000. (that's why i don't have a "kit"!)

If you get around to making fancy ones, yes. The one you showed from the disassembled sword was quite impressive.

I may not be the only one who would be interested in such. Theoretically, we could say we are on our way to making the rest of the sword.

YEP. the CSN version was British "pattern" & "locally blacksmith-made" (read: CRUDE).

But what do I know about swordfighting?

(Excerpt: From "Cage Kittens of Hyper-Space" -- *Unfinished* -- Chapter Nine )
__________________________________

Tam held up his hand. “This is the ring of power. You have seen it before. Though I have changed since you saw me, I am your King!” He turned again to the outspoken pike-wielder. “Kneel before your King!”

The man was torn. He had always been trained to be obedient, and he had not been given orders not to be respectful to this bearer of the ring of power. He knelt, but kept his head facing forward, concerned that he might receive a negative response.

Tam smiled, and turned to face his companions. At that moment the Chamberlain, perhaps feeling that he was losing momentum, moved quickly to grab Dawn and hold a knife at her throat. “You are not the King!” He said.

“You are challenging me?” Said Tam boldly. “Defend yourself!”

He drew his sword, and it slipped from his grasp, clattering across the floor. Sheepishly, he quickly stepped to pick it up.

Tam held up the sword awkwardly, with both hands. It looked as though he were using a crucifix to ward off a vampire.

Smiling, the Chamberlain released Dawn. “I accept! We will end this charade right now!” Drawing his sword, he stepped toward Tam, abruptly lunging forward to impale the boy.

With surprising skill, Tam easily deflected the blade, spun with his sword held close to him, and deftly stepped inside the guard of the older man, sliding his blade between the Chamberlain’s ribs.

Ashen faced, the Chamberlain looked down in surprise, and crumpled to the floor.

Thought you might mean that, but I wasn't for sure.

We have the enfield and the booties and a CS style infantry sword, an adequate kepi, but not great, a very good slouch hat, and a woolen uniform that is cut properly, but of the wrong fabric, ok service belt, canteen, buttons for recreating a man from the 4th NC, but never did get the great coat. His character really shouldn't have a sword, but he wanted one anyway.

And after he had gathered all that, we switched to reenacting the 1790s, in part because I encouraged him to buy a gun proper for the Federalist period, but not totally unknown during the end of the American Revolution.

It does add up. But now we're proper civilians, as my hubby really is too old to properly reenact any military.

understood!

he COULD do "CS State Troops", as the CSA had veterans of the War of 1812 in the ranks. AND at least ONE armed 7YO drummer boy, read: soldier.

the oldest one i know of was E. Harris Walker,of northern GA, "who was thought to be" about 82 years YOUNG in 1861.

Some better prices here.

I think the key to finding them is to use "csn sutler" for the search.

I'm not sure you'll like the sound of this, however ...

1861 Naval Officer's Cutlass

With leather scabbard as above except has USN or CSN (please specify) cut into the basket.
Interchangeable? Not from what I've heard.

"I am," I said
To no one there
And no one heard at all
Not even the chair

Sounds like the inspiration for Harlan Ellison's story "I See A Man Sitting In A Chair And The Chair Is Biting His Leg."

(sh! don't tell him that!) But I can tell you how to knit an authentic pair of socks for your era.

We are actually pretty hard core in our reenacting. Currently, if we want, he can pretty much do from 1780-1869, some periods not as well as others. I have to make new dresses, though.

I personally hate mid 19th century women's clothing and would rather research 1835-1880 than dress out then. 18th century and regency is a hoot, though. and I adore Edwardian fashions, especially about 1916 immensely. Haven't been able to interest him in reenacting WWI...but I am having some success in 9th-10th century stuff...
