WASHINGTON, May 31 — After vowing to steer a greater share of antiterrorism money to the highest-risk communities, Department of Homeland Security officials on Wednesday announced 2006 grants that slashed money for New York and Washington 40 percent, while other cities including Omaha and Louisville, Ky., got a surge of new dollars.

Homeland security officials said the grants were a result of a more sophisticated evaluation process

Somehow, it's very difficult to come up with fitting descriptions of people who are so terminally stupid, isn't it?

The downstairs A/C went off on Friday and I'm beginning to feel it. I'm really uncomfortable.

I have a fan blowing beside me - not much use in humidity!

I'm waiting for the bathroom to be free so I can take my shower. (Don't get too close to me, OK?) :o[

That's fine. I'll get close when you are having your shower! :P

I don't know about that. They speak evil, see their own evl and hear evil from their compatriots. That little fellow would hopefully be a townie Democrat getting ready to change parties.

Otherwise . . .

I came across this while I was trying to figure out what IT was talking about ...

Lightly Stepped a Yellow Star

Lightly stepped a yellow star
To its lofty place.
Loosed the moon her silver hat
From her lustral face.
All of evening softly lit
As an astral hall.
"Father," I observed to Heaven,
"You are punctual."

Emily Dickinson (1830-1886)

First I looked up the word arses:

arsis (är´sîs) noun
plural arses (-sêz´)
1. a. The short or unaccented part of a metrical foot, especially in quantitative verse. b. The accented or long part of a metrical foot, especially in accentual verse.
2. Music. The upbeat or unaccented part of a measure.
[Middle English, raising of the voice, from Late Latin, raising of the voice, accented part of a metrical foot, from Greek, raising of the foot, marking the upbeat, the unaccented part of a metrical foot, from aeirein, to lift.]

Now, obviously, our learned natural poet IT was talking about such poetry when he wrote this ...

Hiberno-English: -- Rearsessed, rearseigned, rearseured, and rearseembled!

I still have so much to learn! Now I need to figure out what quantitative verse is.

The Dickinson poem is lovely.

I am sure the images are hers and hers alone, sort of a cryptic verse for her enjoyment.

I don't bother myself with the rules of poetry. I just write. Well, I do try to write correct count haiku.

"... a cryptic verse for her enjoyment."

No, it's clear enough. She was observing the sun, moon, and stars, and the fact that God's clock keeps perfect time.

QUANTITATIVE VERSE: With rhythm determined by the length (duration) of sound in each syllable, and length being determined by a series of artificial rules in addition to pronunciation in speech. Greek and Latin poetry is quantitative.

We don't really do this in English, I believe,

I occasionally attempt a sonnet.

Most of my rhymed verse is humourous, or in ballad mode, though...

Yes, I agree with you on those points, however, I think she held a secret, poets do that.
