WASHINGTON, May 31 After vowing to steer a greater share of antiterrorism money to the highest-risk communities, Department of Homeland Security officials on Wednesday announced 2006 grants that slashed money for New York and Washington 40 percent, while other cities including Omaha and Louisville, Ky., got a surge of new dollars.
Homeland security officials said the grants were a result of a more sophisticated evaluation process

"Las Vegas is a 24 hour town." Las Vegas sounds a little reminiscent of descriptions of the Flying Castle.
That's why we built three habitats. Each one has its own "daytime."
If NASA, or whoever, decides to go space exploring for real, they should read what has been posted here.

My knees will not be in the market for stairs in the years to come!
We own another house in Boise which we have been renting that's not built into a hill, and doesn't have 3 levels like this house. It does have an upstairs room, so we do have a stairway.
But it also has a living room ceiling that is too high, IMHO.
The house I am in could never be fitted out for someone in a wheelchair. Too many levels.

It is a good idea if you are building into a hill, sometimes. Otherwise, you don't have nearly as much yard left over after you put the house on the only flat ground!

Yep. Sometimes, going for the odd combo's is more of a challenge than the 0
n posts. No one is really paying attention and a fast moving conversation will roll right over them without note.
Which was part of the reasoning behind my affection for the 666 posts as well.
I suppose, in the grand scheme, any given number combination is as easy/hard to get as any other. Saying it that way just doesn't seem as entertaining though... ;-)

"I suppose, in the grand scheme, any given number combination is as easy/hard to get as any other" Yeah, but when you've been to the top of the mountain, everything else is small potatoes anyway.

Competition is one of many spices in life. Any one of which left out of the recipe is a lesser meal.
Once you attain one pinnacle, you see how many other mountains there are out there to climb. Wouldn't it be fun to live long enough to climb all of them?

"I foresee people buying/building smaller houses because of the price of oil, and the uncertainty of supply... I dunno if there will be a market for stairs in the years to come..." A truly energy efficient house has to conform somewhat to a spherical shape, which means that some elevation changes will be necessary. Some of this could be accomplished by making less expensive elevators, which shouldn't be too difficult if designed in from the beginning.
However, if you want to have something that will always be needed, I would bet on windows. The higher tech windows may need to be manufactured in a factory, but the trim is best done on site.
