WASHINGTON, May 31 After vowing to steer a greater share of antiterrorism money to the highest-risk communities, Department of Homeland Security officials on Wednesday announced 2006 grants that slashed money for New York and Washington 40 percent, while other cities including Omaha and Louisville, Ky., got a surge of new dollars.
Homeland security officials said the grants were a result of a more sophisticated evaluation process

Theoretically, our power should be restored by 8 pm tonight (8/19/06). I'm hoping that the meat in the big freezer will survive----- You've got some fantastic insulation if it will last a month! I'm a dork! My only other excuse is the great emotional stress of watching the contents of my refrigerator crawling out of the house in search of "coolth" rattled me sufficiently to screw up the date!
*sighing and blushing*...Naturally, I meant 7/19/06.

Is Seattle the only place in North American to be comfortable this summer?
Good on you!

I hope your meats ok... There's a joke in there some where... *lips twitching* only if I've switched genders!
The meat did survive, btw.

Thanks for the advice re: the dry ice.
Fortunately, we returned home to discover that the power had been restored much earlier than promised.
We were among the lucky ones. Friends of ours were without power well into Friday.

Pleased to hear it. Did I really miss that apostrophe in "meat's"? I must have been really OFF.
Speaking of off, I'm celebrating my 40th birthday with wine and pretzels, so I'll sign off rather than embarass myself when I get dizzy :-).

He can come over anytime so long as he provides the generator, too!...And the power source...And a manual...*wink, wink*
Our power came back on sooner than was promised, so the meats in the big freezer were fine. I'd packed it pretty tightly with the new shipment of meat the previous weekend, so it was essentially a 14 cu. ft. ice cube.
The contents of the house fridge were not so fortunate. Interested in some new bio weapons for the castle?

I'm a dork! ...Naturally, I meant 7/19/06. No, you aren't!!! We all make typos like that -- it's just a little fun to take advantage of them once in a while; a little fun with no harm done. (I hope!!)

Is Seattle the only place in North American to be comfortable this summer? Not right now, it isn't, depending upon your definition of comfortable. 90F on the back deck (85F in central hallway), 38% RH -- mild by your standards, but miserable for us. (Like the vast majority of PNWers we do not have A/C -- central or otherwise.)

By odd coincidence, he just acquired a generator. As to power source, any chance you have natural gas available? The fusion conversion equipment takes up a lot of space.
"The contents of the house fridge were not so fortunate. Interested in some new bio weapons for the castle?"
That's more Darksheare's domain -- snacks for the critters.

I'm celebrating my 40th birthday 40? I sorta remember 40. That was way, way back in the previous millenium, though.
Go easy on the pretzels.
