WASHINGTON, May 31 — After vowing to steer a greater share of antiterrorism money to the highest-risk communities, Department of Homeland Security officials on Wednesday announced 2006 grants that slashed money for New York and Washington 40 percent, while other cities including Omaha and Louisville, Ky., got a surge of new dollars.

Homeland security officials said the grants were a result of a more sophisticated evaluation process

As a sidebar: I made a pretty decent estimate a couple of years ago that we have something on the order of 3,000 books.

That's a lot. As I discovered when I trimmed my SF collection from 3,000 to 300 books.

Well, it does beat having your opponent kicking you in the shins under the table on international TV.

Fortunately the one time I was on international (that means "foreign", right?) TV I didn't have an opponent.

I use the simple symbols, like sunshine and flower and house in colors. Between the two, I can solve them, though it takes me 10-15 minutes for each one. I have yet to go beyond a 6X6 grid.

"The more data you have, the more you can cross reference it, the more patterns you see...and recall becomes easier!"

I like the way you think! Where were you when my biological clock started making so much noise? (Married, no doubt...!)

Committee derived tagline.

"Mom said to call a spade a spade. Dad taught me what to call it when you trip over it in the shed."

Yeah, they're the funniest morning hosts in Wisconsin...

"Oh, man! I'm beside myself."

Of course, you'd have to live a split existence...

"Of course, you'd have to live a split existence..."

It started when I chose Brian as my pen name. Finally it reached its full bifurcative power in my fourth book.

Chapter Sixteen -- Like Little Birds In A Cage	225
Chapter Seventeen -- The Castle, But Not The Castle	231
Chapter Eighteen -- He Could Feel The Hunger Growing243
Chapter Nineteen -- That Could Be A Very Long Time	255
Epilog One -- The Girl Of His Dreams 271
Epilog Two -- The Dreams Of His Girl 277

I mean ... two epilogues?

Wait a sec--two epilogues?

Shouldn't there only be one?

Under ordinary circumstances, yes.

But you do expect inventiveness from your friendly neighborhood science fiction writer, don't you?
