WASHINGTON, May 31 — After vowing to steer a greater share of antiterrorism money to the highest-risk communities, Department of Homeland Security officials on Wednesday announced 2006 grants that slashed money for New York and Washington 40 percent, while other cities including Omaha and Louisville, Ky., got a surge of new dollars.

Homeland security officials said the grants were a result of a more sophisticated evaluation process

Well, it got us started at least. I'm still debating going home early today.

Some reason this made me think of this:

Drill Ye Tarriers Drill

Every morning about seven o'clock
There were twenty tarriers drilling at the rock
The boss comes along and he says, "Keep still
And bear down heavy on the cast iron drill."

Chorus
And drill, ye tarriers, drill
Drill, ye tarriers, drill
For it's work all day for the sugar in you tay
Down beyond the railway
And drill, ye tarriers, drill
And blast, and fire.

The boss was a fine man down to the ground
And he married a lady six feet 'round
She baked good bread and she baked it well
But she baked it harder than the hobs of Hell.

The foreman's name was John McCann
By God, he was a blamed mean man
Last week a premature blast went off
And a mile in the air went big Jim Goff.

And when next payday came around
Jim Goff a dollar short was found
When he asked, "What for?" came this reply
"You were docked for the time you were up in the sky."

Hi! No, I'm feeling a little tired after running three days in a row, so I'll take a day off. If I can get Vlad involved watching a movie with Bill, I'll walk later; if not, I'll just rest.

I finished the 4-bean salad from Tuesday!

I do that, too... I allow a day between events, whether it's working out, doctor's appointments, or errands. Otherwise, I'd be down for the count.

No one liked the four-bean salad, huh? I'm actually happy when no one likes my salad...it means more for me. Of course, about the only kind I make is potato salad. I don't eat enough lettuce to buy the fixin's for green salads...it goes bad before I can eat it. :o[

Der Prinz ate some of the salad, but I ate the rest. Every meal since dinner Tuesday! I like it, but I don't like it *that* much, and it's hard to make a smaller quantity because you have to use 4 kinds of beans :-).

I expect the extra protein was good for me, with the extra running.

I forgot to stop at the vegetable stand on the way home from the library this morning. We'll have to go by there later - the eaters are requesting peaches and strawberries!

LOL! Looks like a nice supper. I'll have to show this to Bill later - the Boy Scouts run a program to send a Scout to the South Pole every year :-).

Yes, it looks like a great way to break up the motonoy of the Antarctic winter.

I think it's great that the scouts send a guy there every year! What an experience!

Specifically, the National Science Foundation asks the BSA (through NESA) to select a Scout to serve during the winter at the Antarctic station

The qualifications are that the Scout has to have achieved Eagle rank, be between 17 and 21 when selected, and submit a detailed application with personal statements and letters of recommendation.

I could apply for it, but I've got enough going on as it is...8^)

We were talking about donuts, and donut holes. It was suggested that I make donut holes ... "just make the holes."

I was referring to targets of various types becoming punctuated in your vicinity.

You do do that, don't you?
