Jason opened his show on Tuesday, May 23rd, with the sad news that he and his family are going home to Minneapolis, Minnesota.
"...I guess it was a Biblical passage that said 'this too shall pass'." Jason started. "I've got an announcement today that is very difficult to utter...but I've reached the decision with my family that it's time to go home." Jason stressed that his decision was a personal one, and is not related to any perceived pressure from elected officials or station management. (Listen to his entire statement below in the Show Audio Section) Jason will continue to work through the end of his contract, which ends in October, or until WBT management can indentify the new host.
The Jason Lewis Show, home of Beatle Bumper Fridays, deals with some serious issues but Jason's sense of humor brings a good deal of levity to the show. Lighter topics include sports, trivia, music and movies. And you'll definitely hear plenty of Elvis and the Beatles during any given broadcast. Jason Lewis' broadcast career began in 1990 at KOA Radio in Denver . He spent some time here at WBT before moving to Minneapolis/St. Paul to talk for ten years on KSTP.
Jason Lewis returned to WBT and began his Radio Free Carolinas broadcast on October 23rd, 2003.
Is he going to be back on KSTP?
Nope.
KTLK 100.3 FM.
KSTP is officially toast.
He always wanted the 2:00 - 5:00 slot.
Will he get it?
I don't think so, with KTLK airing HAnnity live in that slot.
Yep. He'll be up against Soucheray, with whom he shares a long-standing mutual hatred. Should be interesting.
They were toast the day that he left and changed the lineup times and they deserve it. Personally I hoped he would take over for Lambert and Janecek (UNLISTENABLE!!!), but it seems he'll share the mike with the guy from the taxpayers league?
I can finally listen to someone talk about local politics again!
Too bad I moved out of MN two years ago. I sure missed listening to Jason and was "deeply saddened" to hear he was leaving. Glad he's coming back. I'll listen to him via computer feed now that I can relate to what he's talking about.
Thge funny thing is I used to listen to Soucheray every day when Lewis was still here. I haven't listened more than 4 times since. I didn't realize there was that much of an issue between the two of them.
This is very sad news here in Charlotte. Jason is the most informative talkshow host on the radio dial. The local pols absolutely hate him.
KTLK would do well to pick Lewis for that time slot. Hannity will never compete with Soucheray or Medved in this market.
I still listen to Soucheray pretty frequently. I don't know why they disliked each other so much. They had disagreements (especially on the ballpark), but Lewis was very close friends with Mischke, who's kind of a lefty, so it must have been personal.
They do here, too. Pawlenty must be having absolute fits at the prospect of his returning, as Lewis won't let gim get away with being a RINO anymore.
Hallelujah!
You gotta be pretty tighly wound to consider Pawlenty a RINO.
Except for his complete and utter economic illiteracy on the topic of badly needed stadiums, Jason is OK. If we can get the Vikings deal hammered out next year, he can get back to topics he knows something about, and quit looking like the idiot he really isnt.
Hannity is a nice enough guy, but you have to wonder how he ever got where he is, given his lack of depth.
Your gain is our loss. He has stirred the pot quite well in Charlotte and will be missed.
I pick up Jason all the way over here in the North Carolina mountains. He's been great fun to have on the air here, and is as sharp as a tack on the issues. A great Conservative. We'll miss him for sure.
