I've never cut myself really badly, but I do tend to not notice when I'm bleeding until I actually see it (like when I'm chopping vegetables, or touch a sharp piece of metal, etc.) I thought it was really ironic last night that after I got up from the computer, I went to wash my face before I went to bed - and I noticed that my earlobe was bleeding. And I have NO IDEA how it happened.

I went ahead and drilled a series of seven .096"dia holes while the blanks were clamped, and dropped the same diameter nails through them for use as alignment pins:

as you (and Mollie) can see, I have finished the overall profile of the entire bokken:

now the fun begins: shaping the cross-section of the hilt into an oval matching that of the sword's - UNDER the wrapping and ray-skin wrapping. Some guesswork shall be involved:

As is shown in the image above, there is a "step" in the bokken where the blade meets the location of the guard.
This "step" or "shoulder" will be continuous all around the perimeter of that location, once the hilt and blade cross-sections are finalized.
This is (I hope) going to help secure the guard when I install it.
The next step shall be to file the hilt to final ovate-hexagonal cross section in two locations: guard and pommel.
Thereafter, shaping the remainder of the hilt *should* be a simple matter of interpolation between those two datum surfaces.

I'd find a way to mess that up as I have no talent with woodworking tools.
