BTW--the new version of Windows is freely available for public testing...8^) Yup. But no freebie upgrades from there -- or upgrades at all. New installation from scratch. (Most of the machines in this house, and there are more than I can count fom memory, won't support an OS so heavyweight.)

From what I've heard it's going to require 15GB of hard disk space and at least 512MB RAM minimum just to run. (That's without any of the features)
For the features to work, at least 1GB of RAM--though 2GB is recommended.
And the media comes on DVD--so if a computer doesn't have at least a DVD-ROM that the computer can boot from, the issue is moot.
Which is why I probably won't be able to try it except via QEMU or VMware.

15G of hard drive excludes just about everything but the backup box and my MP3 player. Oh well... most of the operational machines around here run Win98, and most of the rest one Linux or another.
"Vista" == "Look Out"!!!

It wouldn't work for me...
-Don't have a DVD drive (though this could be fixed by replacing my fried CD drive)
-I only have 256MB RAM (though it can take up to 2GB)
-My Hard drive is split 21-1-15 (NTFS-Linux Swap-Linux/ReiserFS)
If the OS takes up 15 of the 21GB I allot as an NTFS partition, that kind of shoots the moon...
If I replace the drive, I might upgrade to Suse 10.1, try Scientific Linux (RH Enterprise clone put out by CERN and Fermilab), or go back to Slackware...8^)

Linux box is Suse 10.0. Looked at Ubuntu... decided to stick with the devil I know.
And am off for the night... another political campaign fundraiser breakfast early tomorrow.
