it is important to know that there are people out there who will react in that manner and that one should not do things to provoke them.

I understand that no one on this thread is defending the beating (at least I hope). Still, because these thugs have such an extremely low threshold for what constitutes "provocation," maybe it is they - and not the gay tourists - who shouldn't be out in public.

Violent people belong in prison, there's no doubt about that. There is also no doubt about the fact that not all of them are.
