Don't forget his cd has been selling well and he's written all of the songs on it so he's probably making a good bit of pocket change with Under the Radar too.

Your anti-Elliott bias shows through again. In your neck of the woods perhaps people might not care for him but I can say with great certainty that millions of people liked him enough to carry him through all the way to number 3. I have talked with several people in the black community who really like his style of music and the respect that he has shown for classic black singers. If he wasn't so wasted physically you would have seen a much better performance than what he threw out there Tuesday. Doesn't mean he would have won the popularity contest but too many people who know what they are talking about when it comes to music talent don't share your disdain for his abilities.

Very cool. 19E's agenda is pop schlock, in my opinion, so I think you're right. Clive yammered on and on about Kelly Clarkson's great album, "Breakaway," last night, using it to validate American Idol. But Kelly only began having the enormous success he's achieved after she ditched 19E for The Firm, which has been managing her career since January 2005. Something to keep in mind. :) It's actually more absurd, since Kelly co-wrote 6 of the songs on that mega-hit album (showing, her songwriting talens and that they "owned" Kelly at the time), and "Because of You" was basically complete while she was making "Thankful" for Clive, but Clive and the rest didn't care for it (and this is after agreeing to let her co-write 4 of the songs on the 19E album-- so they recognized she had songwriting skills!). There is no other conclusion one can come to other than that Kelly has forgotten more about pop music hits than Clive and the rest now know.

Well, like I said, I either hit resend or my phone automatically sends the message a could of minutes later. I live in the Chicago metro area and we vote at the same time as the east coasters. We have never had a problem.

I love that he writes. A little concerned about what will happen if he winds up in the 19E wheels. He seems to love it and have so much fun. I'm concerned they will suck the life out of him faster than a brand new Shop Vac.

that millions of people liked him enough to carry him through all the way to number 3Maybe Elliott only made it through because Taylor's and Katharine's votes have been throttled back so far that they only were almost the same as his. Isn't that the point of the conspiracy? That the front-runners are being held back by the chokes that the AI people have placed on the more popular competitors?
My anti-Elliott bias is pretty minor-- I think he was the worst of the final three. I didn't find Chris appealing either but I liked him better than Elliott. I think Taylor is the clear cream of this group as far as marketability, and I think Katharine is OK, but not likely to be a superstar (not another Kelly).
I think Elliott has grown a lot through this competition and I think he appears to be a fine human being, and a great role model. I just don't think he is a marketable singer, esp. since he has no stage presence. Of course this is music and so it is all subjective. I don't like Eminem or any rap, I don't like Black Eyed Peas or any of that hip-hop stuff. Millions buy those records and love them.

NADIA TURNER vs TAYLOR HICKS
SONG : "TRY A LITTLE TENDERNESS"
OK, I've posted for you, the MP3 of Otis Redding's Original version of the song, and also posted for you, Taylor Hick's version of the song.
Now here is Nadia Turner's ( last season's top 10 ) version of the song :
http://www.nadiaturner.com/ Go to that site and on the top right hand corner, you will see TRY A LITTLE TENDERNESS...
Click on it and have a listen and compare it to Taylor Hick's version here :
http://www.idol-thoughts.com/My_Homepage_Files/Page42.html (just click on the song title ).
Both versions are soulful but I found Taylor's version to be closer to Redding's and more melodic.
Nadia's version in the end came out as too sexy and the simulated sighs and groans in the end are a little too much even for a guy who likes to look at girls like Kat Mcphee :)
The reason I sent this is I read a few posts in the other forum -- TELEVISION WITHOUT PITY where some idiot claims that Nadia's version is 600 times better than Taylor's.
To which I say -- only if you are a porn lover.

There is no other conclusion one can come to other than that Kelly has forgotten more about pop music hits than Clive and the rest now know.Grin...Kelly sure is amazing. She wrote 'Because Of You' when she was 16 years old!
Another reason 'Breakaway' is such a smash is because she worked her butt off. She toured solo almost non-stop for over a year, here and overseas, starting in small theaters and other small venues, eventually working her way up to arenas and other big venues. American Idol, Simon, Simon, Nigel and Clive didn't do squat. Kelly did it on her own, with her new manager from The Firm working with her every step of the way. He was the one sitting behind her at the Grammys, and he is the second person Kelly hugged after her first Grammy was announced. (The first was her childhood girlfriend who had pushed Kelly into trying out for AI, and who is now on Kelly's management team.)
That girl may have gotten her big break on AI (and validated AI along the way), but she sure as heck has paid her own dues, and then some.

There's a pic I've seen of Ace and Kat that looks like some promo still from a Soap Opera. It's not just that Kat is pretty, but that she has this very strong actress vibe to her looks. You can look at supermodels and not guess that they are actors. Actors have a certain look to them.

Not sure it's a fair comparison: Studio version versus 1'30" live version with Bandzilla backing. JMHO of course...

The producers have a lot of money at stake in this venture. The need a marketable winner to the pop music audience. Their rules allow them to effectively select that person. I hope I'm wrong but I believe Kat will be named the winner next week. A lot of folks were saying that no way would Bo lose to Carrie and that Bo would outsell Carrie and prove AI wrong and whatnot. The fact remains that all those same Bo fans watched AI this year and Carrie blew Bo away in sales. The producers have plenty of ways to disadvantage Taylor (all legal and on the up-and-up) if they want to and allow those wondering how it was possible that Kat beat Taylor to have at least one reason (and that's all that is necessary to silence the conspiracy nuts) as to how it happened-- as improbable as it may seem today.
Once they put the crown on her head, so to speak, a lot of that nonsense simply washes away-- just like when the Electoral College vote was certified by Congress for Bush in 2001. It's the stages of grief, with acceptance finally coming (as impossible as it seems that it will ever come). Life will go on if Taylor loses and AI knows it.

Some quick calculations:
300 people texting 500 times in two hours (4+ times a minute) = 150,000 votes
600 people = 300,000 votes
900 people = 600,000 votes
a mere 2,000 people (0.01% of the viewing audience) = 1,000,000 votes
If Taylor won last week by 210,000 votes, that is only 420 people....
Makes me want to borrow a friends Cingular phone and pay the bill...

Ok. I don't think that is very nice...at a church? But, i do want Taylor to win. It's not real. There's a website that has software that basically photoshops on the fly whatever you want on that sign. You can make it say "merry10 is a sex kitten," or whatever.

And they used those things to disadvantage Bo. Waited 6 months after Carrie's record and gave it zero promotion. That and, well, it sucked. 19 murdered that record with their formulaic crap. They must have given him a newbie A&R suit.
I guess I'm just idealistic (they say cynics are merely disappointed idealist) and live in hope that artistic merit will one day win out over pure marketing and packaging. If Kat wins, I'll have to wait another year for that hope to be crushed yet again.
