Did you notice that she only visited radio studios, her high school, and her family's home

And did anyone hear her crappy comments/excuses about why she didn't have as many fans show up as Taylors? "They still love me" IIRC

I'm going to have to move all heavy and pointy objects away from the TV next week in case Kat wins. ;-)

Good plan. Thanks for the idea.

I do agree with you about him being like Mr. Dreamy, Harry Conick Jr, and that's a good thing. A REAL good thing. LOL

I loooooooooove Harry Connick, Jr!! I'm not 50 either! I'm 30 and saw him in concert, oh my gosh, has to be about 12 years ago now. If you ever get the chance to see him, do not even think about it, just go. He puts on a FANTASTIC show. He is an awesome entertainer.

With my luck, I'd throw something and it would bounce off the TV back at me causing some major injury.

I agree.....I will hate it if she wins. I have never had such a visceral reaction to a finalist before. Fantasia at least was likeable, Kat just seems cold. I wanted Elliot in the top 2. That would have been such an unbelievable show seeing Taylor and Elliot go toe to toe.

I don't recall our host claiming that was the exact photo but it looked all too familiar to many of us. Kat's family exhibited no class tonight.

Was it a member of Kat's family who screamed out "incredible" when Paula was about to give a negative comment about Kat's attempt at the blues, after gushing about Kat's appearance?

I thought that was calculated to influence the voting and comments (they interfered before) and should've been a reason to declare a statistical three-way tie and revote.

It WAS a statistical tie. Eliot probably would've been number two (or one) if Katherine got the same very tough criticism everyone else in the competition has in the show this year

Did you also notice how Simon was praising Eliot's mother and their relationship as a class act? I really thought that was meant at least partially to humble the McPhee clan (you know, the only ones not in a forced school setting to show up at her celebration)

For the record, her family did show great pleasure when Elliott was announced as the one going home whereas Taylor's family sat there quite subdued. Plenty of other people have commented on it as well. I don't recall our host claiming that was the exact photo but it looked all too familiar to many of us. Kat's family exhibited no class tonight.

Absolutely the truth! My hubby and I noticed it and thought it was disgusting also. I think it's fine for Kat's parents to be happy for her, but there is such a thing as decorum. The camera panned to them and they are grinning from ear to ear JUST after the announcement. It would have been more appropriate to save that for a little while later, as Taylor's family did. It says a lot about one's character and also one's upbringing. Taylor and his family are from the south, known for it's hospitality. Kat and her family come from L.A. where everyone thinks they are the center of the universe. It's as simple as that.

As to calling jonny a fraud. There is nothing dishonest about him. He is a good and decent person. Don't you think you are taking this all a little too seriously SG? It's not like this is the presidential election or something. Don't pat yourself on the back for something you think is of such importance but is really just trivial nonsense.

Frankly, I have grown quite sick of the antics on this thread lately. People bickering over who's statistics are more accurate, taking quotes from websites and being offended by them, and yada, yada, yada. IT'S JUST A SHOW PEOPLE!!! jonny started this thing for people to have a good time, joke, and laugh with one another. Now it is being turned into yet another FR p!ssing contest. Certain folks around here are taking all the fun out of it for the rest of us.

If you are offended, go somewhere else. Plenty of other threads where you can argue with people all you want. Or, here's an idea, just simply don't come to the AI thread. If anyone's sole intent is to come to the thread to be some kind of fact checker or to try to "call people out", save it. The only people who care are you and the ones who thrive on discontent here. The rest of us just want to enjoy the show and each other's company.

And SG, all due respect, don't call the host a fraud. Don't take yourself so seriously and if that was clear enough, STHU! This crap has all become very tiresome.

I would like to enjoy the last show with my friends and my dear friend and host without all this petty nonsense.

LOL! im not the only one that thinks she fat?

She's a big-bodied girl, and gorgeous in the correct clothes, hairstyle, and makeup. Thing is, there's probably a small weight range for her. Just a few extra pounds become flab. So, I'll give her a pass and say she's healthy and into a good life, not paranoid about fitting into a size 8 or whatever.

Absolutely. In that case I would not have cared who won. Now I care. I'm going to be burning up my cell phone texting like mad for Taylor. I even convinced my husband to vote for Taylor and we each sent in 100 texts for him (and I got in 50 for Elliot).

I said to him, "Our bill is going to be so high this month!" He said, "Who cares! We can't let Kat win!!" LOL!!

Also worth noting is that Rod Stewart did the timeless classics thing, and now Christina Alguer...whatever...is about to do one as well.

I have a feeling those old time songs are about to be very popular, and if so, Elliott could be in the right place at the right time.

Good point! I didn't know Christina Agulera (I can't spell it either. LOL) was doing it, but I saw Rod Stewart sing and talk about his latest CD on American Idol. I would like to see them do a lot of songs from the late sixties and seventies. There were a lot of great songs back in the day when people actually sang, as opposed to this rap crap/hip hop garbage where they talk, and call it singing. I do not like it.

The American Idol will be determined by two things:

1. Text messages
2. West Coast voting.

I live on the West Coast, and have found that starting about 30 minutes after the show ends it's been relatively easy to get through to Taylor and Elliott's phone numbers.

I've also noticed that the Dial Idol data shows the % Busy numbers dropping like a rock starting about 9:30 PDT.

So, to me anyway, it appears that the Eastern/Central time zones votes for each of the contestants are cancelling each other out, as they are limited by the number of phone lines. From around 6:00 PDT to 8:00 PDT the Dial Idol stats show for each contestant a 75% to 90% busy percentage, pretty much showing that the phone lines are maxxed out... but the percentages fall dramatically once the Pacific lines are open.

So, if you want your favorite Idol contestant to win... get those text votes going... and if you live in the Pacific time zone, dial, dial, dial all the way to 11pm.

She's just a bigger person then the average hollywood starlet. BUT, she CANNOT dress for her body! It's like she's always trying to hide. The most figure flattering dress was that yellow number, but didn't it come in any other color then SCHOOL BUS???

But that 33% each total is extraordinarly suspicious, and suggests to me that like Democrat election officials, American Idol just counts the votes any way they want

Every week, DialIdol is "right on", except Katherine ends up with a higher standing than they predict. This week, they predicted Katherine in close to a dead-heat for second, with Taylor having a healthy lead.

It has to be something with a block of voting that DialIdol doesn't monitor for some reason, or an outside finagler boosting the Katherine vote at the end by technology. I don't think AI would play with their zillion-dollar franchise with something like that. They have enough control already with their comments, music choices, dress/sets, how the band plays, etc.

HERE IS MY PERSONAL TRIBUTE TO ELLIOTT YAMIN ( this from a Taylor Hicks fan ) ....

I first saw Elliott during the Boston preview at the very end of the Austin audition episode. It was a blur and insignificant. It was a quick, insignificant glimpse.

If you blinked, you missed the few seconds of Elliott's soulful crooning featured in the clip. I didn't, but I dismissed it as just another good singer who will probably go as far as the Hollywood auditions and then like thousands of others, be forgotten.

His pre-Hollywood audition was NEVER SHOWN in the Boston episode. JUST SHOWS HOW LITTLE THE PRODUCERS THOUGHT OF HIM THEN ( Paris, Lisa, Kat and Taylor on the other hand, were given TONS of TV time for their auditions, thus, allowing them to capture fan bases early on ).

The second time was during the Hollywood rounds and the infamous group sing with half of the Brittenum twins. That's when a calm, confident and well rested Elliott blew the rest of his group out of the water by singing "The Shoop Shoop Song" soulfully, tunefully and with every word intact. Couldn't say half that much for his whiny group mates. At that time, Elliott impressed me with his quiet humility and work ethic. And that impression would stay with me for the rest of the competition. The Brittenum twin wanted to give excuses about why they didn't perform well as a group but Randy came back with --- THE GUY WITH THE BEST VOICE IS STANDING THERE NEXT TO YOU ( that was Elliott for your info ). In the end, 3 of the 4 in their group came through and Sway and Elliott made the top 24. The odd man out was Anthony who still got berated by that evil twin even as he was feeling dejected. Somehow, I felt that Elliott going this far with that Brittenum twin going to jail satisfies my sense of RETRIBUTIVE JUSTICE. God still punishes the wicked and rewards the humble.

He was chosen for the Top 24, and at that time, it was a toss up whether he could beat early favorites like Sway (one of his early favs group-mates in Hollywood who was given more TV time) or Patrick Hall ( now this was a bummer. I would've wanted to see what he could do because I am not convinced that he should've gone ahead of say, Kevin Covais).

Despite the fact that Elliott impressed during the Top 24, singing Stevie Wonder's "If You Really Love Me" ( and breaking the AI curse that says --- 90% of Stevie Wonder songs are NOT DONE WELL ( heck, even Kat Mcphee bombed with her ALL IS FAIR IN LOVE ) ), he had never been pimped, had no discernible backstory at the time, and wasn't conventionally handsome. I still did not consider him among the top competitors ( after all, people do get lucky and this could just have been his lucky night ).

BUT THE JUDGES HEARD THEIR AUDITIONS AND KNOW SOMETHING THAT WE DON'T.

Simon came out with a prescient statement and said he was "potentially the best male vocalist the competition has ever seen." At the time, I observed that he was being cast as the "rough diamond" who would grow during the competition.

But it was the following week, when he navigated the tricky jazz rhythms of "Moody's Mood for Love" with ease, that it appeared the unassuming kid from Richmond, Va absolutely deserved a spot in the Top 12. THIS SONG IS DIFFICULT FOLKS. Only guys with talent, vocal ability and confidence will be able to tackle the intricate melody changes of this song and succeed. ELLIOTT DID IT BEAUTIFULLY AND MADE ME A FAN FROM THEN ON.

After he advanced to the top 12, it still seemed an uphill battle for Elliott despite his obvious gifts. Most polls at the time had him pegged as a middle packer--eliminated around 9-6th place. But Elliott held his own, delivering good performance after good performance. And importantly, Elliott, more than the others--blossomed during the competition, right before our eyes. That was a pleasure to watch, and a potential story arc that was too good for the producers to pass up. They got on the E-train at advantageous spots to make sure the tour didn't stop.

I COUNTED AT LEAST 3 OR 4 MORE SONGS THAT I WOULD ABSOLUTELY LOOOVE TO HEAR IN ONE CD COMPILATION FROM HIM ALONE. Could you compare him to Luther Vandros, Peabo Bryson and Lou Rawls ? I believe you can. The only difference being -- He is a Jewish White boy.

In Hollywood, Once the stylists got a hold of him, they encouraged him to grow out his hair and dressed him in some spiffy duds. He grew some facial hair. And the ugly duckling suddenly took on a new look--like the coolest 50's hipster you'd ever seen. He was handsome even. He made Mr Tumnus look cool. I could imagine him being famous and making the NARNIA FAWN look the flavor of the year ( with every 20 something kid growing a facial hair ) much like piercing your nose became the fad a few years back.

Eventually we learned that Elliott's prior musical experience simply consisted of singing at a local karaoke bar and being a part time DJ at a radio music station.
He played music, but really wanted to SING THEM.

We also learned that his own family, including his mother--a singer herself--had only recently learned he could sing! The inexperienced Elliott, who was 90% deaf in one ear and an inslulin dependent diabetic nearly always sang in tune, and nearly always chose songs that were vocally challenging. And he nearly always sang them well.

Count them ---- IT HAD TO BE YOU, A SONG FOR YOU, TROUBLE, even Queen's toughest song ---- SOMEBODY TO LOVE. THIS KID NEVER BACKS DOWN FROM A CHALLENGE.

Elliott most definitely had the vocal chops, but his lack of performing experience showed, as he sometimes appeared awkward and nervous up on the Idol stage, especially next to some of the more seasoned performers like his ultimate competitotsTaylor ( 10 years performing in every outlet you can think of ) and Kat ( Stage/Cabaret performer, Most recently in Annie get Your Gun ).

But even here, his confidence grew as the weeks went by. And Elliott survived--due to his consistently improving performances and his growing fan base. Not only did he make it to 6th place, but he outlasted early favorites like Ace Young, Mandisa, Paris Bennett, Kellie Pickler and--gasp-- Chris Daughtry. At the beginning of this competition, I would have never believed that Elliott Yamin would out last Ace Young, and Chris Daughtry, who were both favored to win it all at various points of the competition.

And I dare say, he came close to advancing past Katharine McPhee. But that's hard to tell--as the phones seemed to be so jammed last night, that all three contestants ended up in a statistical dead heat.

The E-train is the little engine that could.

Personally, looking back at his performances--while not the best performer of the bunch--I think Elliott is the best male vocalist. Now, vocal prowess isn't everything. Elliott has a lot to learn from stage pros like Katharine and Taylor who have the complete package--great vocal and performing skills. But Elliott is still travelling on that learning curve. He's going to continue to improve. I see only good things in the future for him.

FINALLY LET ME SAY THIS OF ELLIOTT -- HE IS WHAT EVERY AMERICAN SHOULD ASPIRE TO BECOME --- HUMBLE, HARD WORKING, QUIETLY CONFIDENT, A FAMILY LOVING KID, AND SOMEONE WHO STILL BELIEVES THIS COUNTRY CAN REWARD THOSE WHO ASPIRE TO EXCELLENCE.

Paula Abdul might not be coherent a lot of times, but in this I agree with her when she remarked with tears after the performance of his life ------ "YOU MOVE ME, AND YOU ARE THE AMERICAN IDOL"

Of course he is happy. But he showed humility and acted in an appropriate manner.

Exactly.....and therin lies the difference...

BUT, she CANNOT dress for her body!

She's not as awful as she was at the beginning. I thought that blue dress Paula praised worked, the black dress was the way to go, and jeans and a top she isn't falling out of are okay outfits.

And use that harmonica! McPhee wouldn't stand a chance :)

What's weird is that at least once the Canadian Idols did a group song with the Idols being able to play instruments if they could, and it seemed to have turned out great. Nashville Star allows and even encourages it. I have no idea why AI is so scared of it.

JMO, I would be they are afraid of people screaming, "NOT FAIR!!" and contacting their lawyers if someone whips out their guitar or whatever and gets more votes then someone who didn't.
