Tuesday, May 02, 2006, STALEMATE

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

STALEMENT

Pronunciation: 'stA(&)l-"mAt Function: noun
Etymology: obsolete English stale stalemate + English 1mate

1 : a drawing position in chess in which only the king can move and although not in check can move only into check 2 : a drawn contest : DEADLOCK; also : the state of being stalemated

Thank you, Laura!
My old 98 broke down, and I'm using this fancy thinkpad. I don't know how to use it.

Billie Jeff's chases jailbait,
Web Hubbell's close to a whale's weight,
But Hillary's a shrew,
That despises the jews,
And to Bill she's naught but a stale mate.

Maybe with practice. Just getting the thread up was tough. It has little windows to ask me what I want to do. How the heck do I know what I want to do?

No way-y-y-y-y-y that I would want to make "subbie look stupid;)

Here's my submission on illegal imigration:

April 14, 2006
"No Illegal Alien Will be Left Behind": The politics of immigration. John O'Sullivan

"If Congress sticks with its current STALEMATE and the legislation stalls, the [illegal imigration] issue will go into cold storage for two or four years -- i.e., between now and next two national elections. If the marchers succeed in pressuring Congress to revive the bill, however, then we are all in for a long hot political summer."

I recall playing chess with my dad when I was a young'n. I considered a stalemate as a win, as he handily defeated me again and again. I accepted that I wasn't going to beat him, but a stalemate? He wasn't gonna beat me either. And then one day, a stalemate wasn't gonna cut it. I risky venture and I was able to capture his queen, and he resigned shortly thereafter. A lesson learned. Now, with all due respect, shouldn't the President be playing for a win against illegal immigration, instead of another damned mexican standoff?

Good Morning!

I can only appreciate a stalemate when I think I'm on the losing end.

Too bad politics doesn't offer a stalemate solution to a close election. Then we could all munch popcorn until the two stale politicians finished duking it out.
