Rangers, NHL Playoffs

Posted on 04/24/2006 5:46:46 PM PDT by frankiep

Well, the Rangers finally made the playoffs again after almost a decade. And what do we get? Only one of the most pathetic displays of post season hockey I have seen in a long, long time. Bad enough that they lost the first game to New Jersey 6-1. But now in the second game they just gave up a goal when they were on a 5 on 3 power play! That's right, they had a two man advantage and gave up a goal. Simply stunning. What the hell is to point of making the playoffs if you aren't even going to show up and make an effort.

I know Jagr is hurt and isn't playing today but still....

Anyway, if this "performance" doesn't prove that Jagr isn't, by far, the league MVP then I don't know what will. They never would have come close to the playoffs, and wouldn't deserve to, without him.

OK, I'm done with my little rant.

My favorite Stars player is Charlie Burns.....I'm talking Minnesota North Stars. Charlie was a player /coach for them in the 70s.
Read Profile HERE
He was sent to the New Haven Nighthawks, the farm team, to run the operation and my Dad was doing PR for them. My Dad was best man for him and I was in the wedding party.....1975 I think...I was just 10.
Guy is going to be a great coach, its so nice to see him in Montreal, where he belongs! He was a joy to watch, a great player and team leader.

My team is enjoying a fine round of golf.

So is mine (Washington Capitals)... but I love the playoffs. The Flyers were smacked around like the French last night. I think they're through ... along with the Rangers.

Barry Trotz and the Preds management are doing an outstanding job of team building.

Vokoun's injury is probably going to be fatal for their playoff life, despite Mason's best efforts.

Mason really covers the low part of the net very well and had some very good saves in that game. Surprised the Sharks kept trying to go 5-hole on him.

After that Cheechoo goal he looked a little rattled, but I really don't think he will be the goat if the Preds get knocked out. Hamhuis also had a very good game. Our PP looked shaky (at best) and was lucky not to get scored on short-handed again.

We fell apart in the 3rd. It was hard to watch. They went 5 hole on Mace because it worked for them. Bettman will be in the house on Thursday so I expect another 30 penalty calls. The only silver lining was the first period. If we can find a way to do that a whole game, we'll be able to salvage the series. Sullivan's groin is still hurt, Walker is still wearing a cast, Legwand's knee still gives him grief and swells after every game, and Zids can't play. But that's life and the play-offs. We've had huge injury problems all year and should be able to cope.

Well, like clockwork, Turco barfs up the tying goal less than a minute from a Stars victory.

This guy is friggin' jinxed. He cannot shut anybody down in the playoffs!!

I fully expect the Avs to win this one, finishing off the Stars. Friday will be a mere formality.

This is a shame, as the Stars have played well tonight.

Told ya!

Less than two minutes into overtime, Turco folds like a cheap suitcase.

The seventh seeds are doing very well this year, but none as well as the Avalanche.

I have never seen anything so pathetic in all of DFW sports. Even the Cowboys never disappointed like this.

Colorado 4, Dallas 3.

I was sure that Tippett would play Hedberg tonight
and give Turks the night off..

The Stars just peaked too early in the season.

Turco's play is pathetic, but Modano hasn't shown up either. No goals, one assist.

I think you're right. Dallas lost three of their last four games, and coasted into the playoffs.

Colorado has played hungry. Dallas deserves to lose this.

Between him and Coco Cordero, it's a toss-up as to who the biggest choker in the Metroplex is right now.

At least the Mavs are looking good.

You obviously haven't been watching Coco Cordero's lame attempts at closing Ranger games recently.

No. I haven't been following the Rangers. I expect nothing from that team (though it looks like that Mensch fella is on a home-run tear).

Here ya go!

Stars win game 4, 4-1. A complete game, a great game. Hegman scores 2, Zubov 1, and Turco makes some great stops.

Dallas beat the Avalanche in every regular season game (5 wins), so the Avs have got to be thinking "Did our luck run out?"

It's still a big hill to climb, but if Dallas wins at home Sunday, this is a whole new series.

Turco will go, even though Dallas just signed the turkey to a four year contract in January.

Dallas owned the Avalanche in the regular season. The only reason they won on Friday is because the rest of the team threw themselves in front of the puck to keep it away from Turco.

Oh don't worry, I'm sure the Wings will find a way to join the Stars on the "We were Great in the regular season but we suck in the playoffs" bandwagon tomorrow....

The Wings look pretty bad. Detroit's problem is they're not scoring. Shanahan and Chelios have one goal between them.
