They've been lying low since stirring up controversy a few years back, but the title of the Dixie Chicks' new single, "Not Ready to Make Nice," is a good indication of their resolve. It's also a stark, powerful preview of their new album, "Taking the Long Way," due out in May.

The album picture shows they are not aging well. But who am I to judge them? Never liked their music anyway - they were never "country" in my book - rather commercial.

Our mistake was acknowledging what they had to say in the first place. Chixies (with) Dicks!

Used ta love 'em. Now, I just can't get by the obnoxious political drivel long enough to care about their music.

They were the Number 1 country group in the USA when fat Natalie opened her yap about Bush. They lost their entire base, and the libs ain't gonna fill the void.

There's a lesson in here, somewehere. I think it's "just shut up and sing"...

I saw the video and heard the song and they obviously are not ready to make money either. The song sucks and the video sucked almost as much as Ben Affleck did in Pearl Harbor. They are talented girls and I use to buy all their cds but when they started ripping on country music fans, etc because of our reaction to their remarks on foreign soil about our Commander in Chief I wrote them off for good. We're not ready to make nice either and we will have a lot more influence on the DC's than they will on us when they file chapter 13.

"They've been lying low…

Translation: Dead careers.."

It's not that their audience has gotten smaller, it's just become more... select. :)

I'm currently reading this. Although written by an obviously sympathetic liberal, it details the trials of the DC and goes into the history of politics in country music. FreeRepublic is mentioned a couple times, even indexed.

OK, I'll play the contrarian. Ready?

I like the Dixie Chicks' music. Since I do not get my political ideas, agendas or leanings from musicians, I don't care what Natalie Maines has to say about anything other than her music. I'm glad my beliefs are strong enough to not be influenced by just any ol' personality!

I do care that she (and the rest of us) have the freedom to express her views.

I'm sad to see the narrow-mindedness that shows up here whenever a public figure disagrees with the Republican party. For example, if a new film is coming out, I can count on someone here giving a review, and then someone else will dig up the director's political donations, or the key grip's posting on some website that says he hates war, and then a whole bunch of folks will declare they won't see the movie, they won't support "those people who don't agree with/ think like us".

I've never cared for group-think. I think everyone should be able to have their opinion, even if it differs from mine. I think "thinking for yourself" is smart! And just to prove how contrarian I can be, I actually watched the video for this new song. I liked it. I like the song, even tho she is slamming those who tell her to "shut up and sing" (I agree, she should just shut up and sing, cos she sings pretty well! Her politics are the opposite of mine, but then I'm a horrible singer!)

One of the things in the video is her writing on the blackboard over and over "to talk without thinking is to shoot without aiming".

Wow! so many "I"s in this! Sorry bout that, I think I better switch back, from Splenda to sugar!

Sounds like you need to buy some new knee pads. We have freedom of speech also and will exercise that. The Vichy Chicks can rot in hell - and so can all those who agree with them.

You're mistaking most of the reactions here.  People aren't upset that musicians and actors disagree with them, that's not the issue.  The issue is actors and musicians mixing their business with politics.

If I walk into a coffee shop and order a cup of coffee, I don't want the cashier to start telling me how much she hates Bush and how evil Republicans are.  That's not what I'm there for.  I'm there for a freaking cup of coffee so my reaction is pretty much, "I didn't get my ass out of bed at 5 and trudge down here to listen to your half-baked, parroted political blarney so why don't you STFU and get me my God damn cup of coffee?"

Hell.  I'm an IT Director.  I could set the Active Directory domain at my company so that everyone's home page in Internet Explorer would be Free Republic.  Why not?  It would only piss off half my users but, who cares?  I'm the one in charge of it so it's OK, isn't it?

If your business isn't politics, you should keep your politics out of your business.  It's just basic civility.  And if you're going to try to parlay your fame for having a pretty voice, or being able to memorize a script and make believe that you're someone you're not, into political prowess, you better be prepared for the negative reaction of people who are paying you money to help them escape from their day-to-day drudgeries - which include politics.

Haven't they always? From Woody Guthrie to Arlo, from The Beatles to Toby Keith, musicians have expressed their views with their voices. I'm just glad I can separate their music from their madness!

No, you're not!!! No one pays any attention to you and no one listens to your screechy noise that passes for "music".

I am man enough to admit I liked their music prior to Natalie's comments and they still make quality music. Its just I personally wont spend a dime on their album because of my political differences.

People who simpy say they suck at making music because they have a different political view has a faulty view themselves in my opinion.

I agree with you. Lots of group think here and its pretty pathetic. I dont think Natalie is ugly. I think she has a good voice and they all three make great sounding music.

I also think people here are being stupid in calling her fat or stupid just because she is as hard headed as most everyone here is.

As far as Natalie goes, it would go a long way if she simply said "Im sorry I let my politics interfere with my love of my fans" and end it there. But she refuses. Her problem as we all know.

I just wish people here would quit the childish namecalling and rediculous insults.

I dont like her personally because of her diarhea of the mouth but I wont act like my opinions are anymore valid than hers just because she sings and im a web developer. I spout off at my place of work just like she did.

Flame suit on...
