Microsoft, Linux and Patents
AP Lawrence ^ | 04/05/2006 | AP Lawrence?

At http://www.no-lobbyists-as-such.com/florian-mueller-blog/ballmer-linux/ we're reminded that Microsoft wants Linux dead. Ballmer is once again making noise about patents.

Unfortunately, Microsoft likely does have patents it could use against Linux. IBM can probably be replied upon to fight back on the side of Linux with its own patents - supposedly they've called Microsoft patent bluffs in the past just by pointing out that they also have stacks of patents and idle lawyers ready to look for violations by Windows code. However, Microsoft might now be willing to risk the battle.

Microsoft is not in a happy place right now. Vista is delayed, and both Apple and Linux are gnawing at its toes. The increasing interest in virtualization and particularly in package/OS bundling like VMware Player is a bumpy road for Microsoft because of OS licensing. Microsoft doesn't want its OS sales pirated, but it doesn't want to miss out on that market either. Linux apps can be shipped with a free OS; Microsoft apps cannot.

Except that Flaming Death, like most everyone else here, can back up what he argues.

In all seriousness, I find that only a seriously deluded man can read each thread cited and deny with a straight face that the posts of the one poster mentioned throughout are in fact chock full of contradictions, half-truths, cherrypicked evidence, and outright deceptions.

I disagree. It's pretty obvious from reading the various posts that Golden Eagle is simply ideologically opposed to many of you around here -- and some of you don't like differing points of view.

The man has insulted my family, had dozens of post pulled and been baned more than three times in the past year for abusive postings, this is not a matter of content. Feel free to disagree on the OSS threads? yes... Start calling people unamerican communist because they use Linux? no..

ROFL! You come on here and call and end to "the flame wars", then follow that up with this:

"Flaming Death, like most everyone else here, can back up what he argues"

HA, he can't even figure out if he wants to quote from Stallman's website, or call him a lunatic today or not. Neither can you, actually.

"Flaming Death~Courtesy Ping."

LOL! Call on the freakshow - stat!

Clearly, my last two points haven't sunken in.

There is a common element that someone is forgetting--and I believe conveniently.

And Flaming Death, the rest of the OSS crew, and myself all have seemed to hit it on the nail...

because they use Linux

I don't harrass people for using linux. I have to use it some myself. I simply expose fundamentalist whackos when they consistently and repeatedly spread incorrect information about a product of very questionable nature. Yes, there are questions about linux. And lies aren't accepted as the answers.

DC,

They primarily defend lawyers...I have nothing in principle against software patents but the way they are being practiced now is not helping innovation. Firstly time life on a software parent needs to be shorter and secondly they really need to stop granting everything that comes across their desk and keep it to truly innovate things not business models of 'online shopping carts'..

Not surprisingly, it's easier to ban somebody than engage them. Personally, I think that banning somebody is pathetic.

DC,

I made a SWAG that actual windows deployment footprint was 40% it was probably way off and any reasonable person would have posted their source and left it at that. A Troll or someone unstable would jump on screaming liar instead of engaging in conversation.

I the used his numbers to prove that the point I made stood at 40% to 70% and the focus was still on a 'lie' for which I had already said was a bad guess on my part...

According to International Data Corporation, the worldwide Linux business is expected to grow 25.9 percent annually, doubling from $20 billion in 2005 to more than $40 billion in 2008."

Linux is free and it still makes $20 billion in 2005 to more than $40 billion in 2008.
Only G-D could stop linux.

Amazing how your lies never end. You didn't make a guess, you knew it was BS when you posted it.

Here's a thread from last year where I pointed it out to you TWICE.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1471641/posts?page=186#186

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1471641/posts?page=192#192

There's also a different link on that page, from 2005 showing MS with 69.6 percent of server shipments.

http://www.itjungle.com/breaking/bn052505-story01.html

So, what lies can you make up now to try to weasel out of this?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The above reply, while perfectly accurate and just, is actually just a repost from the other thread where he attempted the lie. Find that original response here:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1607069/posts?page=46#46
Obviously, newbi3 is STILL are lying about the incident, and refuses to admit I previously pointed this exact same lie out to him previously.
He will probably never admit it, just as he never admitted all his repeated lies about Microsoft ending all support for Windows 2000, when security updates will be available til 2010.
He obviously just can't control himself from lying again. Seems to have that in common with these others, too.
If we're going to run proprietary operating systems then I want my
... which has a nice windowing interface. Otherwise, France has got it right suing Apple to open up the iTunes! Open Source all the way, dude! Like it or not, it's coming, or we'll lose history like some ancient hieroglyphics. Who today can read disks written by the glorious Datapoint DOS system (superior to MS-DOS, by the way.)
Linux probably doesn't earn a 1/10th of that, the hardware does. And Unix hardware earned a lot more.
Look at your own graphic!
More spew.
Manifesto defined is simply a major work (often a writer's magnum opus) detailing a movement. While it's true that when we hear the word manifesto, we think of Marx and Communism, that is not the sole usage of the term.
Coupled with the misconstrusion of what Communism really is and how damaging it has been as a socioeconomic and political system, this ranting makes absolutely no sense at all.
Thus for some reason--and with all due respect, I believe some of us here wouldn't know Communism if it came up and bit them in the butt.
The incompetence of one on this thread is glaring. And if it were light, then it'd appear the sun had come up.
OK everybody, today's lesson: Say it with me: Linux Is NOT Communism. Linux Is NOT Communism. Linux Is NOT Communism. Linux Is NOT Communism. Linux Is NOT Communism.
I think it's a long way from people working together to make a safe, good, OS to enslaving the population of the world.
