At http://www.no-lobbyists-as-such.com/florian-mueller-blog/ballmer-linux/ we're reminded that Microsoft wants Linux dead. Ballmer is once again making noise about patents.
Unfortunately, Microsoft likely does have patents it could use against Linux. IBM can probably be replied upon to fight back on the side of Linux with its own patents - supposedly they've called Microsoft patent bluffs in the past just by pointing out that they also have stacks of patents and idle lawyers ready to look for violations by Windows code. However, Microsoft might now be willing to risk the battle.
Microsoft is not in a happy place right now. Vista is delayed, and both Apple and Linux are gnawing at its toes. The increasing interest in virtualization and particularly in package/OS bundling like VMware Player is a bumpy road for Microsoft because of OS licensing. Microsoft doesn't want its OS sales pirated, but it doesn't want to miss out on that market either. Linux apps can be shipped with a free OS; Microsoft apps cannot.

I haven't tried Linux in two years...business keeps me tied to Windows. But the new Ubuntu in June is going to implement XGL, and I am at least going to give that a try.
I saw that, it might be enough to get me off of fedora, Ill have to check out FC5 or 6 to see if they willuse it first..
Stallman will be thrilled. Hey dude, I'm not pulling your chain, he will. So will the U.N. Sorry if it bugs you, but those two bug me. And they are buggin American businesses big time.
The E.U. attacks on Microsoft aren't about software, they're about attacking the U.S. our (the world's) richest man, and one of if not our most profitable industry. Three of the wealthiest ten Americans made their fortune in software, another in PC's running U.S. software.
You guys apparently get your thrills by running this freeware, "Knoppix" from some E.U. copyleftists, but I don't really care for any of that stuff. I'd rather continue seeing U.S. dominance of the software industry, and a lot more Americans in that top ten richest people in not just the U.S., but in the world.
I know you'd rather just download your stuff "for free", but if you don't learn to better protect U.S. interests, there may not be any left to protect. Or is that your endgame anyway? I've never heard any of you guys explain how free software could possibly improve upon American dominance of the industry. Or is that what bugs YOU - the American dominance of the software industry. It must be, when you're spreading this Knoppix around while Microsoft is being sued by the E.U., and Sun is already having to give their stuff away for free.
Oh for heaven's sake. ROFL
*snort*
Gotta love Chicken Little...

Think they will be happy enough to throw a party with all the money Bill gates gives them?
He should ask for a refund! And should have known better than dealing with those crooks to begin with. Still, not the same as letting them set the computer standards for the rest of the world like they're trying to do on their own. The U.N. software tax, courtesy of Richard Stallman. Look it up, that's what he's all about. He is the exact antithesis to the world's richest man - a man who probably would prefer to live penniless. As well as everyone else.
EX-Freakin-Actly
1d10T.
Why would he? He is a leftist who believes in high taxes, gun control, and planned parenthood... Seems to me he lines up nicely with the UN..
I prefer to say hes been PW*N3WBI3*D
You ok? Hey man this isn't about Gates, if he's dumb enough to give his money to the U.N. he's probably going to lose it all anyway. But have him lose it to Scot McNealy, not Richard Stallman. Have him lose it to Steve Jobs, not Kofi Anan. What is so hard to see about this? Would you not rather see U.S. businessmen succeed that blackmarket duplicators?
hehe yep
and the best part is that he did it too himself (again)
:)
ROTFLMAO
LOL, you little boys and your games. None of you are halfway capable of handling the questions I'm asking, obviously I'm wasting my time waiting.
