He should be trying to win it every week. All of them should.

Every single time they go on stage, they're marketing themselves to the audience. If any of them ever thinks that can "coast" or take a night off, they're sadly mistaken. It may not hurt them that week, but it will hurt them eventually.

That really isn't what I find ewwwwy about her:). For me it's more there is just nothing there. zilch, nada, in the personality department. But not because she isn't smart, more that she just doesn't care.....Rather plastic and robotic because of laziness.

Not sure this makes sense, and I could be way over analyzing...a fault of mine:)

And the West Coast Roundup rides again! Yeeee haw!

Howdy, Pard! :) Fantastic review--

Taylor seems suddenly to have gone all the way over from spastic to static

Exactly. I didn't notice that until you mentioned it--you're absolutely right.

Bucky just looks horribly shy onstage, which makes the audience uneasy. If I close my eyes, he sounds pretty darned good sometimes, but watching him onstage is like watching a puppy be scolded. Painful.

LMAO!!!

I pick Chris, Kellie (AAARGH!) and McPhee as my top performers tonight

I pretty much agree. I might substitute Elliot for McPhee, but I have to admit (begrudgingly) that Kellie belongs in the top three--just for tonight though! :)

Just listening to him sing the song was good but if you watched him there was no spark.

I have to disagree a little--I don't think Taylor was with that song at all.

"They ought to invite both Kenny and Manilow back again next season--so far, they are the only two pros that have made an effort to actually help"

And that's to be appreciated, certainly, but I have a hard time taking any men seriously when their faces have been carved into obscurity.

"McPhee -- I find it interesting that most men seem to like her, and that most women seem to dislike her"

In other words, she's got it.

Given the way some of the contestants have butchered the songs, I can understand why.

LOL, yeah but it can also work the other way, it makes their version soooooo much better:)

I still think Katherine being in the bottom 3 shook them all up last week. That was totally unexpected. They all played it safe this week. But when it gets down to this point playing it safe is a mistake, IMO.

I also find it interesting that most men seem to like her, and that most women seem to dislike her.

Probably because women see right through her.

I don't think Taylor was bad, I just don't think he had any FUN. I really don't think he gets into the country scene and last night was hard for him. Just listening to him sing the song was good but if you watched him there was no spark.

Georgia on my Mind is countryish. I'd say he just wasn't into THAT song. So, WHY did he sing it? He needs to just do his thing and let it take him where it goes. People that don't like his mannerisms aren't going to like him no matter what. Better to perform for his fan base than to sacrfice it all by trying to appease those that can't be pleased. jmo

McCommie.

LOL!!!

I think our McDonalds has that now. The McCommie kids meal comes with a toy hammer and sickle. ;-)

Yes he does need to appeal to his fan base. But now didn't Kenny tell him to sing it slow or something last night. I didn't think he gave Taylor the right advice.

When she was culled down to the bottom two last week she radiated a look of absolute contempt and fury...hatred incarnate.

We could give her the Naomi Campbell Award for the contestant most likely to bean her assistant in the head with a telephone (cell or land line, it doesn't matter). ;-)

I wasn't impressed with any of Kenny Rogers' advice.

It's like she's always peeking out at you from behind a curtain, and she knows something no one else does and is not telling.

I can't even believe you said that. As I was reading lightman's post I was thinking, "It's almost like she's hiding", but I didn't think that would make any sense. You put it perfectly.

It's wasn't just songs of Kenny's, but there were some really odd choices. Country music is such a broad catagory and they picked, well, what they picked. There was an article a couple of weeks ago that the AI people sort of help them narrow down their selection. IMO, Taylor is listening to those people TOO MUCH. If you caught what Kenny said talking about Taylor he said something like Taylor wasn't really into the song. Well, then why sing it??? Pick something you like!!

I really hope that next week they go back to a very general catagory like songs from the year you were born, or the 80's.

80's would be fun. :) Of course I'm partial to the 80's.

I think they did 80's last season, too. Isn't that when we got Nadia and the giant mohawk that got her voted off the show?
