NEW YORK, March 13 (UPI) -- Religious parody on "South Park" has led Isaac "Chef" Hayes to quit the Comedy Central cartoon.
Hayes, who has been with "South Park" since 1997, issued a statement Monday saying he has requested a release from the show because of recent episodes displaying "inappropriate ridicule of religious communities."
"There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry toward religious beliefs of others begins," Hayes said.
"Religious beliefs are sacred to people and at all times should be respected and honored. As a civil rights activist of the past 40 years, I cannot support a show that disrespects those beliefs and practices."
Hayes did not specify any episodes in particular, but a recent show called "Bloody Mary," which included the defiling a statue of the Virgin Mary drew fire from Roman Catholic groups.
I used to love South Park when it first came out. But after about 3 years, the show really went down hill fast and is WAY TOO crass and over the line for my taste. I find their humor not very humorous.
I don't blame Isaac one bit for wanting out, what took him so long?
Ah, an abortion thread. That'll do it.
SouthPark, and COWBELL!
That's what we need, with Chef goin' and all: MORE COWBELL!
Nice link.
and? Did everyone on the thread get banned...or just him?
Good grief. Some posters here are non-stop nasty, and nothing ever happens to them. Regardless of what his opinion was, I cannot see him being rude or nasty.
I don't blame Isaac one bit for wanting out, what took him so long?
Oh, exactly. South Park is full of filty potty talk. Adults who watch cartoons are obviously lacking in intelligence and are immature. Anyone who finds South Park funny is clearly operating with an under-developed sense of humor, probably the result of past or even current drug abuse.
BTW, do you know Isaac? If so, tell him I said hello. Tell him I think this is a great move for his career!
"and? Did everyone on the thread get banned...or just him?"
Not that I know of... this was his last post.

If you knew South Park the way I know South Park you wouldn't say that sort of thing.
Wow, I am always LOL'ing at SouthPark, it is one of the only shows that actually makes me laugh and think at the same time.
I didn't watch any SouthPark until about 4-5 years ago. It bugged me because I didn't think I could understand them. Of course, in a bar you can't.
It does make me cringe every now and then though.
You're right ... "filty" should have been "filthy."
Is that better?
Well, that's usually the case, isn't it?
The thing is, this is what you have to deal with when you use actors, they come with sensitivities and personalities... Matt and Trey know this, which is why they'll have the most freedom to do what they want, if they involve as few outsiders as possible. They have incredible voice and writing talent. Chef was about the only really popular character they didn't voice themselves, and he'll be missed.
"We did Team America with puppets because we hate actors. Every single one of them." ~Trey Parker
Or < /sarcasm>
Thanks for making my point for me. Only drug addicts and alcoholics can enjoy South Park.
That's the last post still standing... Never assume that was the last post. I think he posted a thread on another topic from a blogsite that was pulled.
But he promises not to re-offend!
And poopyheads.
Aha. Thank you.

That's right!
