NEW YORK, March 13 (UPI) -- Religious parody on "South Park" has led Isaac "Chef" Hayes to quit the Comedy Central cartoon.
Hayes, who has been with "South Park" since 1997, issued a statement Monday saying he has requested a release from the show because of recent episodes displaying "inappropriate ridicule of religious communities."
"There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry toward religious beliefs of others begins," Hayes said.
"Religious beliefs are sacred to people and at all times should be respected and honored. As a civil rights activist of the past 40 years, I cannot support a show that disrespects those beliefs and practices."
Hayes did not specify any episodes in particular, but a recent show called "Bloody Mary," which included the defiling a statue of the Virgin Mary drew fire from Roman Catholic groups.

What a load of horsepuckey (eveningstar being banned or suspended). I'm about done with FR. It's become an echo chamber of mostly poorly written, near histrionic conservative blogs and news sites. I'd delete my account if I could. In fact... I won't be back. L8r.

If I were one of the South Park guys, I'd keep Chef around and wildly miscast his voice in every subsequent episode. (For example, have John Cleese do the voice one week, Gilbert Goddfried the next, Kathleen Turner after that...) Just treat it as a running joke, rather than giving Those Who Shall Not Be Named a victory.OMG!!! That's nothing short of BRILLIANT!!! :)

Jim: I have never,
ever, before today, asked for forgiveness on behalf of another poster here at FR.
Please consider allowing Evening Star to return to these boards.
Thank you,
Kent

It occurs to me: Is this about the South Park threads concerning Catholicism or Scientology?
Wonder if someone (perhaps a drive-by hit on the abuse button) asked the mods that Evening Star be banned for offending their church.

I don't think they've bashed the Christian faith or Catholics in South Park episodes. They've addressed and pointed a finger at the way certain ~scandals~ have been handled, or how certain fringy groups within faiths have acted kooky, or made a bit of fun of personalities, but they haven't bashed Christianity, Judaism, or even Islam itself as KOOKERY. They did do that to the Mormans, and to Scientology. It was more pointed. They have bashed hypocrites - those within a given faith and those who have founded cultish faiths such as Mormonism and Scientology (although Scientology took a direct gut shot as opposed to Mormonism, which got its hair mussed up a little). With that in mind, Hayes' reaction is getting him labeled as a hypocrite, and that will not go well for Chef (or maybe even Hayes himself) in upcoming episodes.
