I went camping once in my life at a campground for a week, and had to use those awful outdoor stalls. I don't think I could deal with that again. I always hated those too, we call them pitters. My sister is a nurse who works in ER and once she had a construction guy come in who was bit by a tarantula on his privates from sitting on one of those. I always avoid them at all costs after that story.

I always avoid them at all costs after that story. I am quite comfortable going in the woods (bring toilet paper and dispose of discreetly, a shovel is handy if necessary). The commonly used ones stink incredibly! No one should be forced to use those.
