The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I kept meaning to ask you last night. Are the things that are rolled up like a pin curl the new fronds on the fern? Were they green when you mailed them, or a pale brownish color? That's what they are now, I wondered if they had died in transport and I need to watch for new ones, or watch those to see if they make it.

Morning all.
I haven't been posting because I've had nothing to report, horsey or otherwise. I haven't been riding in three weeks! Ugh... But here's hoping that Becky becomes a grandma soon!

Yep - those are the new fronds... They were covered with a brown fuzz before... I bet they haven't died.

Good Morning! I ride TWH and Racking Horses, but I've heard that Fox Trotters are really nice too. A friend of mine has a half Fox Trotter/half Racking Horse, I think. He says he's very smooth. I don't care what breed they are as long as they're smooth. I'm looking forward to your pictures.

I'm sorry I couldn't remember what breed of horse your ride. I get all those gaited horses mixed up.

I went ahead and ordered that Weatherbeeta fly sheet from Jeffer's that we were talking about the other day. With just the little bit of warm weather we've been having lately, the bugs are already starting to come out. Hopefully it'll help Grace keep a little bit of hair this summer! I noticed that Stateline Tack had a nice looking one too, called the Amigo fly sheet. I would've ordered it, but I needed some other stuff from Jeffer's. We'll see how it looks. I should have it tomorrow, or the next day at the latest.

Are Fox Trotters often, or predominately, pinto? I've only known a few up here, and they were pinto, so my test group might have skewed my impression.

I guess I could have looked it up before asking... I saw pintos when I googled, but an a lot of solids of all colors too.

That's funny because all the ones I've ever seen, and that's not many, have been solid. So I guess I'm skewed the other way.

The only gaited horses I know of that are predominately pinto are the Spotted Saddle Horses. And of course the Rocky Mountain Horses are predominately chocolate with a flax mane and tail, although it is allowed for them to be solid chestnut. The rest of them can be any color, as far as I know.
