This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Oh - I just realized you might have been talking about the cougar, not the coyote. Those probably are controlled here, game dept would probably care, because we're suburban enough, but since it is a game animal, there might be licensing and season restrictions unless you're in immediate defense of life and property.
If you find a transmitter, I guess you could stick it on a 18 wheeler or something:')
That's a terrific picture of them :~D
Well, since I probably shouldn't give any more medical or wildlife management advice (1) because I don't really know, and (2) because I've had a couple bourbons, I think I'll hit the couch before I do more harm :~)
Is there a hurricane trying to form already?? No, I didn't see it and I usually watch for that stuff. Guess I've been too focused on cougars....
Morning. Friday again:')
Yeah, the cougar. I'm pretty sure no one would have a problem if we shot the coyote. Besides, that poor mangy one would be better off dead, he's gotta be suffering horribly.
Just a disturbance that may be in the Gulf next week. Some models looking this way.
Wow, I'll turn on the national weather channel and watch for it. The hurricane seasons have sure been alot more exciting than the tornado seasons. I think we were under a tornado watch ONE time this spring. Highly unusual.
LOL, I don't think so....
Have a good day. I'm off to the rat race. I won't be here for lunch and I have to go cut chickens up tonight, for a BBQ fund raiser.( My trail riding club dues). Talk to yall late tonight or tomorrow.
I hate cutting up chickens. The bones popping kinda grosses me out, and they're so slippery. I usually buy them already cut up, preferably de-boned, for that very reason. Be careful with that knife!
Good morning :~D
Pinging for MissTargets, who is goofing off :~D
A bit drizzly here, anyone going riding this weekend?
And SHARP SHARP SHARP. Use a honing steel. If you have a choice, get a mild/carbon steel knife that you can keep razor sharp (stainless doesn't hone up as sharp). It's the dull knives that cut people. And curl the fingertips of your non-dominant hand under, keeps 'em out of the way.
( . . . experienced chicken-cutter, with only one bad scar. I learn pretty quick. . . )
Gonna ride SOMETIME this weekend. Don't know where or with who. The weather's supposed to be nice, although fairly hot. Shirley's been working 6 12's so we've been riding on Sundays here lately. Hopefully he won't have to work on Sunday too. Last Sunday he was off but had "Decoration Day" at the little cemetary where his people are buried so he had to go do that. BladeRider is going to the Irish Setter National in Michigan this weekend and all next week, so she won't be around. I'll find somebody though. If not, I'll go by myself. The last time I did that I met a really nice couple at the trail head and rode with them.
Ah- Bladerider shows Irish Setters also?
I used to show dogs some.
Hope you find someone to ride with this weekend, we really intend to go, too. ecurbh's off today, buring up his sick leave, but it's drizzly. I think we're going to do spring cleaning on the barn.
Well, there's a lot of enjoyment in dog showing... Is she judging or showing this weekend?
Is your sister's balance trouble related to the car accident?
Sounds like it was a bad one, for both of them.
I have caral tunnel syndrome in my right wrist and when I do too much it really hurts and my fingers tingle. If I wear my brace for a few days straight it stops hurting, then I wear it only at night for a week or so and that does the trick.
