This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
You're right, I like the first one better, too. I just needed a second opinion.
I know which ones you're talking about.
As warm and wet as it is, those toadstools are popping up everywhere. I'm going to get them growing in between my toes if I'm not careful. :~D
You crack me up. I would rather wear the hefty bag but my kids would be mortified.
I tried on bathing suits the other day, thought I was gonna die. My husband went shopping with me and started picking out suits that I'd need surgically removed if I tried to put on. He still thinks I'm 25 and 110 pounds, not 45 and #$%! pounds.
Yeah - I had to say the same thing to my honey about lingerie... I could wear it, but a forgiving imagination is probably better. ;~D
You all crack me up! Somedays this group sure brightens my day!
Come bathing suit shopping with me. One look at my hail damaged bee-hind in a bathing suit, under that flattering florescent lighting, you'll be rolling on the floor.
I Googled "Devil's Snuff Box" and it look's like that's actually what they're called. Who'da thunk it...

Now why should you be any differant than the rest of us 40 something women!
Been following the conversation.... Do you know, are the people involved in the incident(s) active in that group?
I wonder how Christie Brinkley looks in a bathing suit?
Better than I do I am sure!
I'm not sure. I'm hoping they are:)
I found the response about this sport being full of politics interesting. Trying to figure a way to respond to that to keep that line going to see how others feel about that.

Well, at the moment they're focused on kicking as the misbehavior, and not the abuse element. They need to be directed around to rearing as the misbehavior, and beating the horse for it as the potential abuse. And how the horse should score after throwing that kind of fit.
I could ask. I've got nothing to lose :~D
BTW, CindyDawg, I meant to, and do, thank you for your donation for HH knives for the troops :~D It is appreciated by all of us, the troops in particular.
I'm hoping the person that is being spoke of named "Jean" shows up and comments. I know her, she is a horsemanship judge, and is very sensible and knowledgeable.
But it sounds like the rules are vague, don't you think?
Becky
Go for it:), include somehow too, a man going down the trail hitting his horse in the neck with his fist repeatedly...is that abuse????

From the NATRC rulebook:
E. Disqualification
1. A horse and rider, for the purpose of disqualification, are considered a team. Disqualification of one automatically constitutes the disqualification of the other.
2. Judges, the trailmaster, or the ride chairman have the authority to disqualify competitors for the following reasons:
a. Riders who abuse their horses.
b. Riders who drug their horses, use prohibited medication, or refuse drug testing.
c. Riders who engage in conduct unbecoming a competitive rider.
d. Major violations of the rules.
e. Entrants completing the day's ride more than 30 minutes before the minimum time.
f. Unruly horses, such as those difficult to examine or judge.
g. Any competitor who is excessively early or late so as to interfere with judging or operation of the ride.
h. Openly abusive language or behavior toward management, judges, ride personnel or other competitors, during or after competition, by the competitor or any person associated with the competitor, be they family or friend. Said competitor may be penalized or disqualified as the case warrants.
3. The rider must be informed by the ride chairman of any disqualification action prior to awards. If the disqualification occurs during or following awards, the rider must be notified in writing by the ride chairman of the disqualification within 7 days of the ride.
F. Pull Criteria
1. A horse or rider may be pulled from competition for reasons other than those stated for disqualification.
2. A horse and rider, for the purpose of pulling, are considered a team. The pulling of one automatically constitutes the pulling of the other.
3. Judges, the trailmaster or the ride chairman have the authority to pull a horse or rider for the following reasons:
a. The horse or rider exceeds acceptable mechanical, metabolic, or mental parameters.
b. Rider option.
c. A horse requiring treatment by a veterinarian or rider that prevents comparitive evaluation during the course of the competition.
LOL, I don't know at this point. I'm feeling it out:)
There are certain ones I'm waiting to see how they will respond, the "jean" lady, and a man named Larry Gould. They were both at the ride, and they are both on the Region 4 board.
Becky
Well, since I'm an outsider, I'll just lurk - for now :~D
