The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I think I'm gonna split them in half and give you each half of each one... just on the off-chance that they need more than one to propogate. If they make it a year, I could send you more, even if they don't propogate on their own.

The price is right in line with what I see at the saddle shop up here...

I know nothing about fern propagation, so it sounds like a plan to me.

I don't know either... but about this time of year, the underside of the fronds get covered with this pollen looking stuff. I thought I'd show you since yours won't have any fronds on when you get them. These fronds will turn brown and die in spring. For garden tidiness, I usually cut them off about now, before the new ones come up. To propogate them, you might want to leave them until they die.

I've only ever really multiplied them by digging them up and splitting them, so I really don't know. They're looking a little more dignified now, I put them in buckets.

And now I'll take a break from the pictures for awhile, so the dial up folks don't curse my name [any more than they already are] :~D

That's a wise choice. - Put it in the "tell me only what I need to know" category.

I don't think $1400 is a lot for a custom made saddle. A good Circle Y is going to run close to that. I like the saddle he has on the web page. Oh, and I really like Montana Silversmith and he uses that.

I had a kidney stone once. I was sent home on tylenol #3 so I could hurt and puke. If I had been a guy I would have been put on a morphine drip:')

Oh, I'm anxious to see how they do in Becky's garden. I really want to grow them here. Why don't you call the police about the duct taped garbage can - I can't think of any GOOD reason to tape one shut.

I know that pollen looking stuff is spores, but I don't know if it pollinates something else or if ferns are just supposed to grow from that all by itself. I know that when I buy ferns, I put them in a much bigger pot and by the end of the summer they will have filled it up. So I think they spread by roots somehow too, because sometimes the pots I buy will have little ferns coming out of the holes in the bottom of the pot. I usually cut them off and plant them too. Ferns are weird!

You think I should? Ugh... There's so much garbage and junk dumped back there I feel like it's probably just stinky garbage. I did get pretty creeped out when ecurbh and I were cleaning up the back forty to put the horses there and we found a bag of clothes, half buried. We thought about calling then... Thought, heck, the forensics unit might come and at least clean it all up!

But we didn't. I think it was just frap dumped by the lowlife prior tenants.

If it were just trash, why go to so much trouble to make sure the lid stayed on? I'd just have to know what was in there and because I'd be worried it was something previously alive, I would want someone else to open it.

I know what you mean... I sure don't want to open it.

We get deputies out front here at least once a week or so. They sit out front and chit chat, or do paper work or something... Next time maybe I'll walk out there and talk to them about it. I do wonder....

Those ferns are just beautiful, I can't wait:)

The trash can is scary, and I'd have to say there is something other then just trash in it, or else why is it all taped shut. Very scary...
