This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I like the ones with the wagon wheels.
Yeah, I really like that one better too. I just thought it was interesting about the other one being in the shape of a bit.
It's hard to see, but what's happening is the pony's got a fir branch in her mouth that she's having fun with, and she's trying to get the other horses to chase her, or try to take it away :~D
She's still got the branch in these two, and she's managed to get Bay to chase her.
But inevitably, he loses interest...
Well, if this works, I'll ship them to everyone :~D
LOL!!
Pony: "I've got a braaaaanch, and yoooou caaaan't catch me!"
Bay: "Get AWAY from me with that damn branch or I'm gonna bite your ass!"
Pony: "You gotta catch it first! Here, I'll even hold it up there for ya. Nyaaaa!"
I can see it now.... "HairOfTheDog's Fern Nursery. We ship Globally". ;o)
Heh... that's about it. If I knew what I was doing, she'd be a great pony to teach circus tricks to. Yesterday when the farrier's apprentice was trimming her feet, he was struggling a bit to rasp her toes holding her foot on his knee, so Mark plopped his hoof stand next to him. The apprentice said "Can she hold her foot that high?" Mark said "Heck yeah - that pony could wrap her feet around your ears if she wanted".
I guess I should tell you, that the web site for the shop is a work in progress:) He told me he only has his barrel saddles on there now, but has other stuff to put on, just hasn't had time to finish it.
Since you thanked me for the web site, I didn't know if it was something you planned on keeping and looking at more.
He makes all the saddle accessories too, (which reminds me I need a new breast collar, sigh), and headstalls, etc. He has bits, blankets, ropes, etc. I think eventually it will all be on there.
What do you think of his prices? I hated spending that much, but if I buy one there, I'm guaranteed to get a saddle to fit. and my old one has held up well, I know he uses a very high quality leather, Herman Oaks, so I guess that's about the best I'm going to????
Becky
LOL, those are great. That reminds me of the way Rusty use to pester Harley till he got him to play. Rusty would rather play then eat:)

Well, the prices are about in line with other saddle shops I've seen, like National Bridle. He's about twice as expensive as the Amish though, so I'm a little spoiled. But having him right there and guaranteeing it to fit is worth a lot though.
That spot looks like a good shady one, and didn't you put in soaker hose a while back? The only thing that might give you trouble is the soil might be a little too alkaline up against that concrete block wall. But dosing it with something like Miracid every now and then would probably take care of that. And you'd need to mulch it real deep in the winter to keep the roots alive.
Oh my, twice as expensive, good for you, yikes for me:). Well, the guarantee is worth alot to me. I just didn't see that I had much of a choice. I do not want to get stuck with another saddle that won't work, and have to sell it at a loss.

Right along the wall, I've put alot of peat moss down,,,is that a good or bad thing? i was actually going to plant some blue poppy's there, but they are going to be so iffy to grow, I thought I'd rather have the fern there, I could put the poppy's in front of the fern. Yes, there is a soaker hose under the ground there.
Becky
I know whatcha mean and with the luck you've had, I don't blame you a bit.
The peat moss is a good thing. I do that in my beds too.
Went out walkin searching for the perfect ferns... There were some nice ones here... but I really don't ~want~ to know why this garbage can is duct taped shut out in my woods, and I try to avoid this area :~\
Some cute ones growing out of this mossy log, but I thought the shipping cost on the log might be prohibitive :~)
Here's your ferns. They're looking a little flat right now because they're dormant, and all the fronds you see there will die when the new shoots come up.
Here's one...
One's got a much bigger root on it than the other, we'll see what we've got when I split them up.
Gonna let them soak in a bucket of water for awhile, maybe the night so they're good and wet. Then I'll chop 'em up and cut all the fronds off :~D
Oh please! rolling eyes (lol)
We took Chance and Bobby (Shirley's little dog)
Oh my! Could be a body in there! I believe I'd avoid it too, but my curiosity would get the better of me and I'd have to open it and it'd probably be just be putrid garbage. Yuck!
The ferns look good. Thanks!
So are ya back yet or are ya still on the road? We'll need a full update at some point. ;o)
