This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I went to Boston once. Had a great time and loved the mass transit, the Italian food, and the historical sites. I grew up in Portsmouth, Va. I also have family around Rocky Mount, VA. My dad's family are all hillbillies.
My NY friends live near Rochester. In PA, I have friends all over the state, Stanton, near Harrisburg, and near Pittsburg. My Harrisburg friend is moving to Texas in October but she will still be a long drive away. She is moving down near San Antonio which is a 6 hour drive away.
I couldn't open it either, so it ain't just you.
See 5452. There are some awesome sky shots on her link.
I'm meant to ride with the storm chasers, not chase them on horses:') Isn't that where the guys go to college? A ride in the Ozarks sounds fun but I would have to find a rent a horse place.
Yeah, I found it as I caught up. Those clouds look really cool! I couldn't watch the video though. They won't let us do streaming media here at work.
Work. Yuk. I'm fixing to go in for awhile. I have today off if I want it but I don't want to pay for it.
Yep, we gotta pay for our horse habit. ;o)
I figure I'm up to about a 20 dollar a day habit. How about you?
I don't even want to think about it, seeing as how I've got 9 horses now.
...And I SURE as heck don't want my husband to think about it! ;o)
Becky, are you riding today? I haven't heard from you since early this morning.
BladeRider is off this afternoon having NB shoes put on both of her geldings and she's supposed to be taking before and after pictures. I'll be interested to see how this guy deals with Jake's pancake feet. He said he thought he could have him back in shape in 3 or 4 shoeings.
Oh, hell no!
Yeah, just got in. My girls came Kristy and Jenny, and we had a nice easy ride. Dot doesn't have shoes, and is pretty out of shape, having been off a year. And long riding isn't for a nursing mother:). But it was alot of fun. I showed them the new trail I found a couple of weeks ago. I had even called Jenny and told her to bring her camera, but she forgot, like mother like daughter:).
When we got back we helped Charlie load up a trailer full of rocks. They are trying to get their driveway fixed so that every time it storms they don't get stuck.
I hope Blade Rider likes the shoes. so far I do. I did get hold of Chris and Harley is going to be shod before I go to John Zink.
Hey does anyone know if you spray for weeds with 24D, how long do you have to keep the horses off it?
Becky
I'm not familiar with that chemical, but the spray we use has info on the label for how long, and I'd at least wait that long, and after a good, solid, rinsing rain.
Oh - and glad you had a good ride, wish there were pictures :~D
Guess what I did today. I got Mack to check airline tickets for me. I've been wondering if with the fuel prices the way they are if tickets had gone up. Before I looked I set my limit. Prices have gone up, but, if I fly during the week I can do it. So if it's all the same to you, and you want me that long, I'll come like on a Wed. and leave on Tues. July 12-18???? He told me to wait till around the 1st of June to buy them, might come down when there is more people moving around. It's a gamble, but surly they won't change that much between now and then.
Becky
Me too, I was going to tell Jenny to take as many as she could, but we plan on doing this often, so soon I'll have some pictures.
Becky
~smiles~ Exciting! It's getting to be time to look at tickets! Oh I hope the price doesn't go up too much, I don't know how to gamble on when is the right time to buy them.
It makes no difference to us what day of the week you come. Sounds good to me to make it mid week!! :~D
Oh, and I had him figure I'd be flying in to Seattle, is that right?
Becky
Yes... I'm about an hour South of SeaTac.
Two hours from Portland, might be worth a check if it was a lot cheaper, but I doubt it would be.
