This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Thanks, he really is turning out to be a very good horse, I'm so thankful I came to my senses and decided to keep him:) I shiver every time I think how close I came to selling him.

Mine got all their immunizations yesterday, including rabies, and strangles. They are sore and probably a little fevery. The trainer was telling me that she had a border once that was scheduled to ride in an event a day before hers got shots. She said they were both moving slow and stiff but the number 2 horse wasn't as bad and she took him out and made him exercise anyway and he did fine in the event but the one she put up took days to re-coop. So...I exercised and cooled them both down. They liked the water. Okie did something I've never seen before. He stretched out his head to the water and then it was like "ahhhhhhh"
Glad you kept him too :~D
Hope you can have a really good season this year :~D
If I can just check in and not have a sore backed horse I'll be happy:)
Becky
I hope you get first place and take your ribbon and rub it in the face of that momma that strung you along about buying him.
He's done well with the new saddle since the first break in period?
Yeah, he has been fine. No sign of a sore back. Surely if he was going to get sore it would have showed up by now...
Becky
Thanks:)

Cindy, We are back up with power and internet. Phones are better. The house in Hewitt had no damage. Here in Waco, we we are a block from the damaged area of Franklin. Johnny was disapointed he couldn't hear the tornado better. I had a tree fall on 3 cars. There was minimal damage to them, thank goodness.
I got out yesterday and took Jack and Mom to Lewisville while the power was off. Mom hated to see him go, but he's better off in rescue where they can address his needs and find him a home.
Yall were fortunate. Did you see the post where the girl drove her car into a mall to get away from the tornado that I was telling you about.
Yes I saw that. I can't blame her for getting to safety though.
Me either but I would have to be really scared to do something like that. I'm gonna post a pic of some minis that my doctor bought for your hubby to see, tomorrow.
We have clouded up here but no rain. Today was a scorcher. My doctor put me on blood pressure medicine. About 3 hours after I take them, I get to feeling really bad for a couple of hours. Of course during that time I get a call that Okie not feeling good. I went out there but it wiped me out. My doctor was there and suggested I needed to get out of the heat and they may take me off Friday. I started to leave and I looked at Sarah Lee and was telling myself she was ok but my conscience got to bothering me and I went and got her and wet her down too. I was glad I did because she acted like it made her feel good but I was dragging. At least I have a doctor that understands about horses.
Jeepers, I had no idea you were having severe weather that close to you.
Just for future reference in case we have a catastrophe tonight... for the record, our animals are acting really weird.
Cyn and the pony were freaked to be in the barn (rememeber when Cyn pulled this a couple months ago?) So rather than have her hurt herself trying to climb over into Bay's stall, we blanketed them all and put them all out. The rain's stopped anyway, we only put them in so they'd have a dry place to lay down.
Now Cartman the big old fat cat is running around the house. He never "runs around".
Huh. Something has to be going on in that barn . It's only when it rains , right? Strange that the cat ancy too though. No telling what's buried under their stalls:')
We switched Cyn and the pony's stalls, and Cyn's been in there every night for months since and been just fine. All the sudden tonight, she's acting like there's an invisible monster and she got the pony to buy into it. We looked up in the rafters for some hiding critter.... nothing.
So what is happening this time that happened last time? Do you see any patterns?
No... We stand and stare at her and try to figure that out and can't make sense of it. Last time, she was fine when we swapped stalls.
She's so bomb proof too. Is it just a night or does she act this way during the day also?
She's only done this twice. The rest of the time she's been fine.
I don't know how to solve it.... I just wanted to make a note of it so if something weird happens, I can say she predicted it. She and the cat. :~D
