This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I'll go take a look but I've about had it with jerks on chat sites today. I was taking a major beating about posting a story with no paragraphs. I copy and pasted it but didn't change the way it came up. Sheesh, you'd think I was a mass murderer.
Which thread did you post it on, the barefoot one?
I found it. You are much more diplomatic than I am and your post is an excellent example.
The most diplomatic thing I've done today is call someone an asshole.
~LMAO~
LOL:)
The rumor about Sutherland leaving the show has been talked about every year since the 3rd year. so who knows:) I think Tony could make it, but it would have to be a dam good scenerio.

No, I'm not going to ask. If you want to go ahead. I just really don't like those people, I think they're full of hot air and themselves, and I especially didn't like the posts about, I'm not sure how it was worded but basically we are all just dumb horse owners and we need to listen to them like they were Gods, and keep our mouths shut. It is not a very welcomeing thread to the average horse owner.
I've deleted it from my bookmark thread. I don't care to hear what they say about my horse.
Becky
Understood :~\
Going for a ride in your warm weather today?
There is a website called bitterwaitress something or other and it effected me the same way. "bitter waitress" is right, I've never seen such hatred for the customer in my life.
Sounds like a good plan.
They are trying to claim a little too much certainty from a few pictures that don't really show the whole picture.
It's interesting that they all want radiographs showing shoe placement. Who does that? The only one I've ever seen get x-rays is tuffy who's battling all her issues over serious problems. I hardly think many get regular xrays on sound horses, unless they are in BIG money competition.
Exactly. I wonder if they even do that with their own horses.
And your right about their certainty from pictures. I found that truly amazing:) I'd think to be that certain they'd have to see the horse moving.
I've been thinking and thinking about what to do with Harley. It really bothers me that he came up soooooo sore. I've been tempted to just go ahead and take him down to the pasture for awhile and let him get back to natural for him. I'd have Rock to ride. If I could sell Belle, I'd probably do that. I just hate dumping all my horses on the kids:).
I think my plan is sound tho. By the time I would send him if I have to there would be plenty of grass down there, and he wouldn't have to be fed grain, so the kids wouldn't have to worry about feeding.
I just need to be patient:)

Most traditionally trained farriers do. The Natural Balance method has only been around about 15 years and it's kind of like when any new treatment or procedure comes out for anything, the old-school people "poo-poo" at it and claim it's snakeoil because they're not familiar or comfortable with it and don't want to learn. There's only 2 farrier schools in the country that train this way and Hair's got one of 'em right in her back yard (well, in her state anyways). The other one is in Montana I think.
There's a fine line, and I walk it too, between situational awareness about what's happening with the horse, and constant second guessing of our decisions. Good plan :~D Adapt as necessary :~D
Are you advertising Belle? If you were going to sell her as a broodmare, either open or bred to Rocky, now would be the time.
Wow! I gotta get over there and see what y'all are talking about.
Where is it again?
I think that's bunk, really, though I haven't said so on the thread (yet). 100 years ago, a horse was a tool, and if he had problems, he'd be shot. Today, our horses are luxuries and pets (sorry Becky, forgive the usage) and we pay far more attention to their health, welfare and comfort than they did 100 years ago. True, there are still an awful lot of neglect cases and igorant owners, but I think in general, the state of the horse has never been better.
Agreed.
I'm chit-chatting with the ones that are responding to me. I'm still hoping someone will give me some constructive advice on Bay, but I don't think my post was interesting for them. And I'm not sure what I want to hear, really. Yes I do. I want to hear that I'm doing right by my horse and that I don't have to worry so much. I don't think I'm gonna get that. :~D
