The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I agree, that first one looks almost natural.

I guess the only good thing about having so many horses is that even if they do get loose, they don't go far, they don't want to leave their buddies.

Well that the time the barn that I was at had 14 or 15, but I swear I heard him shout "Freedom!" as he ran away....

Speaking of paint I bought the stripper for my table tonight( sounds like I'm pimping:')Yesterday at another garage sell I bought a recliner/rocker. It's in really good shape. I got it for 15 dollars. My husband just kind of looked at me when he walked past it in the garage today.

Hey, that's great. Now you have to take pictures all along the process so we can watch, okay?

heheh. We once had a pregnant mare get loose, and she thought that it was all fun and games until she lost sight of her "people" (ie we stopped trying to catch her) and came trotting frantically back down the center of the street whinnying and whinnying. (We stopped trying to catch her because her owner jumped out infront of a Mac truck to stop it from continuing to barrel down the street and almost got squished). It was an interesting day. I can only imagine what was going on in the truck driver's head.

Oh Lord - what a picture that paints. I'm paranoid here - every horse would have to go through two gates to actually get off the property. And I'm a horrible nag about the outside gate. DO NOT LEAVE IT OPEN or die :)

I'm uber paranoid about gates too. Even when I'm in the ring the gate is shut behind me, because the rest of the property isn't fenced off aside from the mare pasture and the two gelding paddocks. If I should get dumped, I don't want to have to worry about chasing the horse down the street or through the woods. At the last barn that I was at, the entire property was fenced off and you had to get through two gates to get to the woods. (The back gate was undone already... go figure) That's how the gelding got out. The mare got loose by snapping her lead rope. Horses aren't like dogs. They don't come when you call them... not when they have the taste of freedom. (Ok... so some dogs are like that too... but hey)

LOL - like my min pins. A taste of freedom and they are gone. They shut off their hearing and what little brains they have.

That's debatable. They are smaller than most cats, bark at shadows, and seem to be totally untrainable :)

We also have a two-gate system here and both are closed whenever horses are moving. The pony got out once when I slipped. Scared the daylights out of me [tiger food] until I finally herded her back in to the yard.

Good Morning all.

Hard to get back to the grind after 3 days off. On a good note, the sun is shining and it's going to be in the 50's today!

Good morning.

The weather here is definitly heading to springlike:) Yea!

I finally have figured out how to navigate around the NATRC Region 4 Yahoo Group Chat site, and I put an ad out there for my saddle, and have already gotten a bite. I just sent some pictures of it to a lady in Houston...

HHMMMM, I hope she buys it, but I have no idea how that's going to work out. Rather a catch 22 thing. I don't want to ship it till I have the money, and I'm sure she doesn't want to send the money till it's shipped:). Anyone ever sell anything this way.

Becky

I think she should expect to have to send the money before you ship it. I would.

Good morning all.

We have a nice drizzly fog this morning and hopefully rain all this week.

Coastal hay is impossible to find in this area and alfalfa is $10 a bale.

I drove all the way to Stephenville to look at two horses that were advertised on AgDirect, both duds and wildly overpriced.

I am beginning to get fed up with AgDirect. This is the third time now that horses were not as advertised. It was about a 600 mile round trip. Grrrr.

Other than that I am so happy we are getting rain!
