The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

ecurbh was walking with a bucket that was empty, if I recall, but the crowd gathered around him to check it out and Cyn lunged at the pony right ~through~ ecurbh.
Eeep!

My trainer will take in or out five or so horses at a time. It floors me every time that she does it. And they follow her easy as pie.

It's tricky even with horses you know well, and tricky enough when you're trying to bring the lead horse out, but dangerous when you're trying to retrieve the low man in the group.
I've had problems with taking out the low man in the group. If I go for him, the alpha mare heads him off and chases him away from me and then gets agressive with me. It scared the pants off of me the first time she did it. I remember once I got him on the lead and tried to sneak him away, and she got beside us and started to beat on him. Poor guy was torn between being good on the lead and high tailing it out of there. I gave her a good old hard whap with the end of the lead, and she backed off, but followed with her ears pinned. I've had an awful time with that mare. She also guards the main gate so I have to sneak out the side gate now and again.

It's the alpka mares isn't it? I finally moved Sarah Lee. I was uncomfortable for the both of us. I constantly had to stay on guard and fight them off for her and they beat her up when I put her back in. The long walk is a PITB but it's worth having her out of there.

Ok. Maybe it was the one with your back to the camera. I didn't think so but....it doesn't matter. Those were two I enjoyed looking at again. I can't pull up the video but I was reading Frog's post. We need to find away to take pics while doing other stuff:')

I got this catalog in the mail. You can buy flower plans with seeds. It shows how to make gardens. Have you seen them? I really like the plans for around trees.

Took me awhile to get back :) I'll try that tomorrow and see what happens. I got home tonight and found I was logged out on here and had to log back in (?) I stay logged in on my home computer. Just one more mystery in a day full of them I guess. At least all of them have been minor ones - anyway, thanks for your help and I'll check first thing in the morning.

. It's situations like that that would keep me from wanting to have any community pasture at my boarding stable.

Interesting. How are you going to set up your stable? Would the boarding horses ever get to be on pasture?

If it wasn't for Harley's "special" back :\ and that I need this bigger tree I might go somewhere else...

Becky, I think you need to tell those people to stick it and try one of these saddles I just bought. I tried it on Tennessee and Grace last night, and they're at polar opposites as far as backs go and it fit both of them perfectly. Tennessee is so broad that it layed almost flat, and Grace is so slim and high withered that it looked like it was hanging on a fence post. I took pictures of it on both of them and will upload them as soon as I can. And the cool thing about it is that each side of the bars adjusts to it's side of the back independently of the other. So it would adapt to Harley's "special back problem". And they're a lot cheaper than the one you've ordered too. You can get a brand new one for less than $1000. There's a couple of them on ebay right now with a "buy-it-now" price of less than $700. I paid less than $500 for this one, including shipping.

What's the brand? Do they have a web site I could look at? So Is this a one size fits all type thing?

I'm just so afraid of getting stuck with another saddle that doesn't work and having to sell it.

Becky

Well, I'd like them to, but I don't like the idea of clients having to sort through a herd, and I don't like the idea of other peoples horses getting all marked up in pecking order disputes. If horses are gonna be there a long time then maybe, but it seems like if horses are always coming and going the herd would always be fighting over status.

Maybe if everyone had their own run, and every three runs or so share a larger pasture those horses get turned out in... I don't know, still thinking about it.
