This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Well, careful out there... three following loose because they want something can be more dangerous than three on a lead.
ecurbh was walking with a bucket that was empty, if I recall, but the crowd gathered around him to check it out and Cyn lunged at the pony right ~through~ ecurbh.
Yeah I know. I carry the rope but I don't halter them until we are at the gate. I lead them by their jaw. I just picked up 2 tag alongs that day.
Yeah. That's why I carry the lead rope. If they get too close I move them back. It's just I feel kind of sad for them. They want attention too.

They are good girls though. I don't allow crowds at the gate. I usually just have to make a "stop" with my hand and they do. After I get the princess out then they come up to get petted.
Hmmm.... It's situations like that that would keep me from wanting to have any community pasture at my boarding stable... Not sure I want clients having to go fetch their horse through a crowd of other horses... Not only can they get trampled, they could let horses out. It's tricky even with horses you know well, and tricky enough when you're trying to bring the lead horse out, but dangerous when you're trying to retrieve the low man in the group. I think I recall you talking about that before.
Don't I wish........I have a few more years,mainly due to health insurance. It's too damn expensive to pay out of pocket for hubby and I.
What can I say? I like making lemonaide out of my lemons:'). That's the way it is and I either can stay out or deal with it. I am careful though . Very careful. It wasn't so cool with the alpha mares. Some were mean old hags in there that charged and got popped with my lead rope a few times. I never let them intimidate me though. The geldings are different. They want attention too and will jockey for it. They all know I will hit them, or throw rocks , dirt or what ever it takes for them to stay back. They give me space until Okie is out. They will then come to the fence too and I'll give them a "nothing personal" pat. I guess it's just knowing your situation.
That's a problem for me too. I'm really thinking about this July of quiting though. I just have to have better confidence in myself and take the risk though. It would be such a relief. I have a full time and 2 part time jobs and I'm getting ready to start my business. I really would like to give up my full time job. My bread and butter. My security. Gulp!:')
An oddity here at work. I can get on to FR from any computer except the one at my desk. It tells me that An error has occurred everytime I try. However, if I go to netscape.com and then search freerepublic.com, it comes right up. Been happening all day???

Are you clicking a shortcut/bookmark, or typing "freerepublic.com" into the address bar?
First I was using my favorites but then tried just typing www.freerepublic.com in the address bar.
Could you have been banned?
Well, I don't think so 'cause I can post when I get here. Why would they ban me? I almost never post except to this thread.
