The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Mine have unrolled an inch or so since yesterday too. The bucket sounds like a good idea.

When FR's off, it's kinda like whistling in the dark isn't it? You keep wondering when it's gonna come back on and wishing it would hurry up and do it.

And now that we're back I don't really have anything to say!

Oh - a horsekeeping note.... remember when I took all the salt licks away last fall because the pony was obsessing on it and peeing way too much? Well, the last couple weeks or so, I've noticed all the horses chewing on the fir trees. They don't usually do this. I gave the salt licks back a couple days ago, and they licked at them for about an hour straight, and since then no tree eating.

So far the pony heads to it and licks first thing when I let her out in the morning, but so do the others, and she doesn't seem to be obsessing on it all day, like she was.

LOL! But it's nice to know that you can now isn't it! ;o)

That's funny about the horses and the trees. Hopefully they didn't damage the trees too bad. My cousin had to wrap a couple of her trees in chicken wire to keep her horses from killing them

They weren't eating the bark, they were eating the low branches... I decided they were seeking something they were deficient in... and maybe I was right.

Hello:)

Were we off for awhile:)

I had to take Jenny and the baby for a baby checkup, everything is good. Now I've been catching up on bookwork, yuk, that I let go since least week. I need to run out there and feed mine.

Horse shoer coming Thurs. I'm hoping Harley has grown alot. He's been getting that gelatin everyday.

I swear if I had the time to stand out there and watch them I'd be able to see the fronds unrolling:)

So, Hair, is Tony dead?

Becky

I sure hope not!

Last night's episode irked me.

I don't think I've ever seen a horse do that on a conifer. I've gotten the impression that they don't taste very good in the odd times that one of mine has grabbed at one of them. Maybe fir trees taste different. All we've got around here are pines and cedars.

It definately was weird behavior for them to be eating it at all.

Do you reckon that it was just boredom? I mean, I've been known to eat stuff that I wouldn't ordinarily eat when I didn't have anything else, even though I wasn't really hungry. Maybe their salt block was kinda like their potato chips. ;o)

That could be too. There's certainly not any pasture growing out there, and though I've been feeding them hay on the ground during the day, they aren't exactly thrilled by the hay we've got available right now.

You know where my kids live they have pasture. 40 acres. And I've noticed that this time of year every year, the horses start getting peckish about their hay. I think they know that green grass is about to happen and they just want to wait on it. At the kids place things are starting to grow and green up, but it's not really enough for the horses yet to make it entirely, but they're just not interested in the hay. Dot especially I noticed will drop weight and we fret every year about it but then May comes and we start worrying about founder:), feast or famine.

Well, I guess because they're killin' off all the good characters. And I'm not really counting the hobbit as a good character... I'm glad he got to redeem himself and die before he could cause any more trouble LOL :~D

And the VP-FLOTUS-spineless Pres-Martial Law storyline is just going nowhere with me.

And Kim and her therapy boy should get over themselves. I thought she'd come around. I'm guessing we'll see her again, and I think the boyfriend is a player somehow.

I do think the storyline with the new people coming in from Homeland Security will be interesting... I'm guessing at least a few of them are dirty.
