The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Well she's not completely deaf. I don't have a dog whistle but I went up behind her outside and called her. Nothing. When I clapped my hands though she turned her head. She kept stopping until I turned toward her and then came in the house. I took a pot and droped it a few feet from her when she wasn't looking. She turned her head but didn't jump. My husband has a deep voice and he called her from another room. Her ears never moved.

Yall in Texas get TETRA TALK? There is a disturbing article. regarding NAIS see http:// www.sos.state.tx.us/texreg/sos/PROPOSED/4.AGRICULTURE.html. The Texas Animal Health Commission has been authorized to implement an animal identification system consistant with NAIS. On July 1,2006, premises registration will be compulsory in Texas. All persons that own, manage or care for livestock, exotic livestock, poultry must register and submit a fee. This is being reported but I don't see any outrage from this organization. It doesn't say anything about horses though.

If they are including livestock, you can bet horses will probably be included.

Those books were ordered from the warehouse. The campus store did not have any in stock. They are supposed to be in next Thursday.

I was just reading this on the Texas NAIS website. I'm quite sure it includes horses. The voluntary registration form for premises in Nevada lists Beef__Dairy__Sheep__Goats__Horses__Swine__Poultry__

Nevada states it will be mandatory here by 2008. I can find no information anywhere giving penalties for non compliance.

Folling this link will get you to a pdf document for Nevada Premises Registration Form. I tried to get the one for Texas but you have to register to view it.

I'm a member of Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and got some information regarding animal identification. I didn't take it seriously and put it aside without reading all of it. Guess I need to find it and see what's going on.

Thanks so much. It is great to me a grandmother:)

I just talked to Jenny. She and the baby are doing wonderful, they get to come home this afternoon, so I have a busy day ahead of me:). When JP was born I got a "tradition" started:), I cooked supper for them for the first week they were home. Jenny and Travis have been looking forward to that, so I have to run to the grocery story today:) to be ready for that.
