That is interesting. Can you tell me from which place she comes? I could take a trip there and take some photos for her.

If she wants to preserve those records she ought to have the microfilm put on disc. But then the equipment for reading the disc will be out of date before too long.

Remember the 5.25” double density floppies that held all of 360K.

Cardhu,

My comment referred to the Fred-on-Everything post a moment before, where he talked about Mexico around Guanajuato. My wife is from Cortazar, next to Salamanca, in the state of Guanajuato. It is quite civilized, having been there, but times are tough.

She works through the Family History Center of the LDS church here in Utah, which has the Genealogical records of all the towns of Guanajuato. The Catholic priests of the area did a magnificent job over a span of 400 years to create and keep the unbroken record I mentioned. There are even volumes which were created because the visiting Bishops decided the originals were not written in fine enough penmanship, and ordered the priests to transcribe them. Both the originals and transcriptions survive.

I should have checked the post that you were replying to - I know Fred lives in Guadalajara, is Guanajuato around there?

My daughter bought land in the Pedrigal just outside La Paz and then her husband to be got sick when he was visiting America... must be the bad water - lol... so their plans have had to be revised.

Time for bed here.

Goodnight everyone.

I suppose I could focus on the spiritual side of things and look for the message.

Opossums come into people’s lives when they’re in tight corners. They bring with them the skill that they’re most famous for, which is playing dead. Many people become confused when Opossums play dead. Playing dead convinces people that the game is over. It gets them to walk away, to look in other directions. This allows Opossum to run to safety.

Opossum medicine uses a great deal of strategy but, when all else fails, Opossum plays dead. Opossum has the ability to fight with its claws and teeth but rarely needs to do this. Instead, when things get a little hard to handle, the supreme skill of diversion (confusing others) is constantly employed. It sends others on many trails of confusion as they try to work out what to do.

According to Opossum traditions, the most important thing is that you have to be ready.

Here's more:

The opossum is a crafty animal that shows us how to play different roles. It knows when to act, when to hide, and when to show its true colors. Opossum is a master at recognizing truth as well as falsehood. When it wants attention it gets it. When it wants to be left alone it plays dead. It is a strategic animal that knows how to mold each situation according to its needs. It has the ability to decode hidden messages and read between the lines.

A supreme actor, the opossum can be aggressive or submissive depending on the situation. The opossum knows that each situation has commonalties as well as differences and reflects on them carefully before it responds. This links the opossum to the energies of practicality and ingenuity.

Always full of surprises and unpredictable opossums are masters at playing dead. When the time is right they can suddenly spring back to life. Playing dead is a self induced state in which the heartbeat actually slows and the pulse becomes minimal. This ability serves to confuse many predators giving the opossum an escape from life threatening situations.

Opossums are nocturnal and raise their young in a pouch on their mid section. The young are born blind and rely on their feelings to guide them to their destination. They learn to sense their way around at an early age developing strong instincts by the time they reach adulthood. These instincts are complimented by their inherent ability to disguise themselves. The opossum is a multi-faceted actor that continually changes its appearance. It does not allow its emotions to consume its actions and partakes in the game of life with strategic maneuvers. Part of what the opossum teaches to those with this totem is emotional and mental stability.

The opossum is a craftsman in the art of appearances. When it appears in your life it is telling you to wake up and pay attention. Things are not what they seem to be. By observing your actions, reactions, thoughts and feelings, deeper insights emerge. This emergence leads to self-empowerment. Congratulations and welcome home!

"It knows when to act, when to hide, and when to show its true colors. Opossum is a master at recognizing truth as well as falsehood."

Useful talents.

Stockings can be an effective weapon, yes.
Against whom though?

G'nite Cardhu.

Probably about time for me to head home from work.

Guadalajara is a hundred or so miles due west of Guanajuato, they are in adjacent states. It is a very volcanic area in Guanajuato, a high volcanic plateau, and so many artesian hot springs come out of the ground they are just used to water the vegetable gardens.

Perhaps a bit, but more weary of some of the situations I am having to deal with right now, and a bit overwhelmed with all the changes...job, moving, Saturdays tied up in classes, having to miss a family reunion, etc. Had some bad news today on one of my cases and I'm very worried about the children. And then, of course, there's the dingbat, who has gone from incompetent, unprofessional, obnoxious, inappropriate, condescending and generally offensive to downright abusive to clients and staff. I know this because she makes sure she has an audience for her idiotic and hysterical outbursts. I'm starting to believe that the woman is an escapee from a mental hospital and her namesake is buried in a shallow grave somewhere.

Never mind.

I guess I should fix some supper. I kinda forgot. Hmmm....I'll bet my Beverly Hillbillies cookbook has a recipe for possum stew.
