Just finished reading a thread that I hope all of you will take the time to read. Yes, its long but it is also an excellant reminder of where we were, how far we've come and the unwavering strength and courage of the man who brought us here. He didn't go wobbly when we needed him most and we owe him our support now.

FOFLOL. They call themselves "purest" and "true" conservatives. But the only thing I can see that is true and pure about them is their determination to elect a democrat in every election this year because they just sat around on their behinds whining about the President. They claim he has let them down, harmed the country but I submit they have let him down, they are the fair weather patriots. He has not waivered but the same cannot be said for them. They are "truly" and "purely" tiresome.

There are many who are really conservatives, real patriots who are concerned about the lack of attention to the border. Most of those can have discussion, although some have inadvertently wandered into saying things they shouldn't be saying and should know better.
There are some who are truly extremist, like the old John Birchers, resurrected as "anti-New world orders", the paranoid, black helicopter, tinfoil hatters. You can't discuss anything with them, and they get shriller every day, and a bit battier much like the Kos kiddies.
There are some who have become one issue voters, who believe this is the issue that is the most important, nothing else matters. They are now adding to the vitriol, and blaming Bush for something that has been going on for 100 years.
There are some who are "Mobeys".....liberal plants faking to be conservatives to sabatoge the Republican majority. There are more of them than people here think, and they are Hell bent on destroying Bush, and this is the issue.
It is very disconcerting. I think Bush has been soft on the border, and wrong in not paying attention to this issue. I think we should be much tougher on border security. I say this, yet believe there are other issues more important, or at least as important that are not worth self destructing for. For this I am called a Bush bot and arrogant.
Gotta love it.

My choice for Best Quote by a Lawyer goes to Robert Luskin, Karl Rove's attorney speaking about an egregious report made by Jason Leopold on liberal blog site, Truthout.org that Rove had been indicted in the CIA leak investigation. He even went so far as to say that Luskin had been in secret talks with U.S. Attorney's office about Rove turning states evidence. LOL (BTW, according to Howard Kurtz at WaPo, Leopold is an admitted liar who "has battled drug addiction and mental illness and been convicted of grand larceny. That didn't stop more than 35 reporters -- from all the major newspapers, networks and newsmagazines -- from calling Luskin or Rove's spokesman, Mark Corallo, to check it out.")
Of course Leopold's history did not deter the MSM, no, they went into frenzy overload. When they were finally able to reach Luskin for a statement. The attorney said he had spent most of the day taking his cat to the vet and having a technician repair his computer at home. He said he was stunned, therefore, when reporters said Leopold reporteed that he had spent half the day negotiating with Fitzgerald.
Luskin said, "The cat's medical tests found that the stools were free of harmful parasites, which is more than I can say for this case."

My number two choice in the morning is Google world news, and it came up immediately when FR would not. I keep a Yahoo account to access the Yahoo Free Republic Group, since they post Jim Rob's communications when FR is down. You can always get a good estimated time of repair from them.

I agree with you about the "categories" and their mindsets. The border issue is a tough one but it is one that President Bush inherited. Moreover, his position as Governor of a border state is pretty much the same as it is today and that was reported in 2000 and 2004.
The problem that I have with any of the "bashers" is the public airing of their angst. The single issue whiners are the worst offenders. While I can't agree with the rabid dissenters, I respect their right to dissent. It is their method that offends me.

In case any of you are surprised by the outcome of the New Orleans Mayorial race. Let me just say this... the choice was not as simple as it looked. Yes, Nagin was and still is in over his head. Yes, he is a democrat. Yes, he pandered to the black community after Katrinia and he shoots his mouth off when he is backed into a corner. Still, when you add up all his many faults, as bad as he is, he isn't a Landrieu.
New Orleans has not turned out a sitting mayor for over 60 years. The black community didn't elect Nagin in his first term, they voted for the Pennington, the former NO Police Chief who is black. Moderate, white republicans helped elect Nagin the first time and apparently they helped him beat Landrieu this time.
IMHO, Nagin's re-election may not be as bad as it seems. First, this time around he knows he can't fail or he will not last the full 4 year term. Second, the DNC supported Landrieu and actively worked against Nagin. I'm guessing that is why Nagin spoke so well of President Bush in his victory speech on election night and why his supporters cheered when he did. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, I doubt that Mary Landrieu can be re-elected without the full democrat machine operating in New Orleans. It was New Orleans black precients that helped her pull ahead of Suzanne Terrell the last time and now those folks are scattered all over the country. So, without her brother in the Mayor's office to keep the wheels greased she could be in trouble. Her baby brother would have been able to keep her failures as well as the failures of their father, former Mayor Moon Landrieu covered up. Nagin doesn't owe Howard Dean, the DNC, Blanco, Jesse Jackass, Hillary or any of the Landrieus anything. Oh, did I mention that Landrieu has a brother who is an assistant DA and a sister who is a judge ? Waaaaaay too many Landrieus, past and present, on the taxpayers payroll.

State operated.
They had a huge bronze door stolen off a monument a couple years back, and now won't let people watch the sunset due to it.
