Hemi on a Tabletop
Weber Precision ^ | Mar 11, 2005 | James Weber

This page will describe the construction of a miniature eight cylinder engine I built in my home machine shop over the past few years. I still have a few small details left to finish, but the engine is running and almost complete. This was my first attempt at building a running miniature engine, I should have started with something a little simpler. I had a great time designing and building this engine and the first time it started was an unbelievable experience. I am going to take the engine back apart over the next several days to modify it for running on racing fuel or alcohol, I haven't decided which yet, I will be increasing the compression ratio by milling a bit more material off the cylinder heads. I will take pictures of all the internal components and post them here along with how I went about machining the parts and tooling.

Go to the website to see more of this amazing labor of love. And whatever you do, don't miss the video.

I am in awe. It must be great to have such skill...and time...and money...and equipment...and energy!

It's not a hemi. It could become one, though the precision might be a little too much for this small an engine.

As tempting as it is to ping this guy's very cool hobby, it doesn't really fit the FT ping list (there's nothing futuristic about it). Thanks for the ping though!

It was more a combustion chamber issue.

Regardless, it was quite an accomplishment.
