Chocolate New Orleans—A simple analysis

I just couldn’t understand why Nagin would make such a comment about New Orleans. I mean the statement is not only racist, it’s also stupid and while Nagin is not a genius, he is not that stupid. Therefore, the statement has to have some meaning behind it. From my perspective, it’s simply desperation from elite well-connected blacks who, as typical Democrats, have prospered by taking their suffering inner city black constituency for granted. As more and more people of Mexican decent enter into the city, they feel they’re losing control. In short, the “chocolate” comment was made by hungry wolves in search of fresh meat to feast on for their existence. So the question becomes, will blacks come back to New Orleans?

The black community in New Orleans can be best understood by breaking down the city into two categories, the white collar and blue collar black communities. And of course, the criminal class of folks who are small in number but get the most attention. The white-collar black community mostly lived in New Orleans East, with a few living in uptown New Orleans and fewer in Slidell. The blue-collar black community primarily lived in the 7th, 8th and lower 9th wards, housing projects throughout the city and in pockets uptown. And of course there are people who are in the middle and some black residents live in Metairie, Kenner and across the river.

From what I’ve heard, the vast majority of white-collar black residents have settled in Dallas, Texas. The initial sentiment amongst the people is that they have been very well received and like the environment. Another area that has been settled is Shreveport, Louisiana and smaller communities in surrounding states. The sentiment is the same as in Dallas and the people are just amazed at how friendly the people are and how they want them to stay and be a part of the community. Of course Baton Rouge has been the obvious choice for displaced New Orleans blacks. The sentiment seems hard to read and given several contacts, I’d say it was less optimistic than in other cities.

Many blue-collar families have settled in Houston, Lake Charles, Atlanta, Baton Rouge, Shreveport and smaller communities away from the Gulf Coast. The sentiment seems to be one of a bit more anxiety at being displaced but shook at how well received they were into the communities. Contrary to media reports, most people feel that the US government has taken care of them very well. They’re very good people trying to adjust as one would expect in a “who moved my cheese” sort of way.

The criminal class primarily settled in Baton Rouge as individuals and Houston as groups or gangs. The individuals in Baton Rouge feel out-of-place and out-of-touch. The groups of criminals in Houston feel threatened by being the minority in a city where blacks are not the majority and not even the main minority. They also feel a bit out-of-place and out-of-touch.

The reality will probably be that most of the white-collar and blue-collar black residents of New Orleans will not go back. The criminal class cannot go back without the cover of their fellow black victims. Therefore, the only “chocolate” victims will have to be of Mexican decent. The good ole boy Dutch era gang better start practicing their Spanish.

New Orleans has always had the highest crime rate, murder rate and crime figures in the nation, you can't sugar-coat the facts.

Non-numerical observation where the precentage of the New Orleans, August 2005 criminal class could have ranged from 1 to 100%.

New Orleans has always had the highest crime rate, murder rate and crime figures in the nation

A fact.

you can't sugar-coat the facts.

I'd say the criminal class has increased 5x to 10xs within the last 50 years. The best black families started leaving New Orleans in the mid 1950s and was replaced by national Democratic family management reinforced by local religious "leadership". Then the natural "tragedy" occurred. As I have said before, black America in 2006 can be understood of as many iron catch basins and the Democratic system as acid rain clouds. Once corroded, the level of effort necessary to rectify your fellow Americans is better used elsewhere. The tragedy continues……….

Nevertheless, I just can't imagine New Orleans without blacks. I am white but lived in the Deep South all my life so feel like it's not racist to say that the best cooks, the best jazz musicians and the best blues singers have been black. Maybe those times are gone now. I sure hate to think so.

It would be "racist" to say if the best of any respected profession was white. In the past, I feel as though the best doctors, engineers, scientist, etc. in the world were in New Orleans and were white. Nowadays, with choice, New Orleans still has the best jazz musicians, Blues singers, doctors, engineers, and scientist in the world. The Big Easy just needs some decent politicians.
