Next week they all do Stevie Wonder songs as he is going to be there that night.

He will do a better job than anyone else given his voice range. The women are going to be interesting to watch on that one. Maybe the week after the theme will be Celine Dion or something.

Ace would do well in that one.

That's a Mandisa song waiting to happen.

I think Ace will do Air Supply

Shout "Ace is gay!" and see what reaction you get from them :)

The result!

Well, at least Stevie has a ton of songs to choose from. Dion, gag/barf.

Ace was fantastic...I think all you guys are intimidated befause he is so fabulous looking. He's talented...it's incredibly hard to sing like he did tonight and he did a great job. To me, he's shown the most versatility.

I spit up in my mouth a little....

Yes! - I ordered it on Monday...there are some available on ebay as well but they were going for upwards of $35 earlier this week...and I can wait for it - plus wanted to support the band directly! LOL!

Yeah, as a Top or as a Bottom. Others might say as a Pitcher or a Catcher.

Interesting theory. Why is it then, that the male hits his sexual peak at 18, whereas a woman hits hers at about 40?
______________

Isn't it obvious? The man upstairs is a comedian.

methinks you are off about Will. Nice kid and my wife says he is tres cute, but too bland and unimpressive to go any further.

Here's my thing... I think Will has the most potential of any of the guys, with the possible exception of Elliott. I know this generally biases me against the older competitors, but let's face it -- guys like Chris and Taylor are as good as they're ever going to be. There's a reason they're still undiscovered talent, and that reason is that they're very good, but not great.

Will, likewise, is very good, but not great. The difference is that he still has a huge amount of potential to grow, and I don't think the others do.

This 18/40 thing could explain all these teacher/student trysts that keep popping up in the news, but never happened when I was 18.

There are many people who claim to be turned off by Taylor Hick's twitching and epileptic spasms.

Well, to the others who mention they don’t like the twitching. you have to watch more of Joe Cocker and others…

The twitching is EXACTLY what his fans DO like and what makes him so likeable and endearing to those who like this kind of music…

Performers FEELING the music coming out of their soul and communicating that CAN’T HELP BUT DO IT.

Have you ever gone to charismatic worship meetings and watch the people sing their hearts out in joy and ecstacy, and even spontaneously waving their hands and dancing to the music ?

THAT’s WHAT YOU GET WHEN YOU *FEEL* THE MUSIC. AND THAT's WHAT TAYLOR HICKS DOES WHEN HE PERFORMS.

Put the song on (or another song you really feel) and when no one is around…..heh heh, let yourself go and DANCE, not a known dance....but what your body feels with the music and see what happens to ya!

Guys like Mick Jagger, Dave Matthews and even Roger Daltrey do it all the time.

Better still — go to one of them Vineyard Charismatic Worship services…. that’s EXACTLY what you see.

PEOPLE PERFORM BEST WHEN THEY *FEEL* THE MUSIC. That’s what Taylor does.

Here are several things you should notice about Taylor during his performance :

1) It was a pity the performance was limited to 2 minutes. This could’ve been an even bigger crowd rouser had it played out to 4 minutes ( the length of the original song ).

2) This is a performer’ song, not designed to show off your vocals in the first instance but your ability to entertain. In this sense, Taylor lighted up and got the crowd involved. It’s great to fire up people without having to shout “Get Up everybody !”

3) Notice the un-ending cheers and claps after the performance. Randy had to pause before he could get a word in. This was CLEARLY A SPONTANEOUS RESPONSE to his performance.

4) And here’s the kicker — WATCH SIMON’s REACTION AS TAYLOR WAS PERFORMING —— *ALL SMILES*. It’s hard to get that kind reaction from the man famous for bringing people down but Taylor simply brought it out from him.

5) I don’t know why Simon would call it a good radio performance. It was clearly meant to be LIVE with audience participation.

6) Listen to Michael McDonald's version of the song and Taylor Hick's version via AUDIO .... It IS ALMOST SIMILAR IT IS UNCANNY.

Many people equate Taylor to Ray Charles. I disagree. HIS VOICE IS MOST SIMILAR TO Michael McDonald ( frontman for the famed Doobie Brothers ).

FINAL THOUGHTS : We need a slow, serious song from Taylor next. GIVE US “GEORGIA” man. This will highlight your versatility and ability to do it all.

He’s a LOCK for the top 12. It took me 50 dials to get through him.

The next question would be this, what’s he going to sing when the dreaded theme nights kick in and your song choices are now significantly narrowed ? Let’s anticipate them …..(based on past themes that appear with regularity ) :

1) MOVIE NIGHT
2) MUSICALS
3) THE 90’s BILLBOARD
4) THE 80’s BILLBOARD
5) THE 70’s BILLBOARD
6) THE 60’s BILLBOARD
7) SONGS FROM THE YEAR YOU WERE BORN ( for Taylor, that would be 1977 ).
8) BILLBOARD TOP 100
9) I HEAR THEY MIGHT EVEN CLEAR LENNON-McCARTNEY
10) BIG BAND
11) MOTOWN

AND NOW HERE's A SPOILER --- MARCH 14 IS STEVIE WONDER NIGHT. Stevie will be there to introduce his music, songs and give each performer advise...

What do you suggest each of them choose as a song ?

Here are some of the OVERSANG and OVER-PERFORMED songs of Stevie Wonder ( sang at least twice by previous Idol contestants) which should not be done anymore...

1) You are the Sunshine of my life
2) My Cherie Amour
3) Overjoyed
4) All Is Fair in Love.

It supposedly happened in my high school (early 90's), but I never believed it. The teacher and student that were supposedly involved just didn't seem like the types.

I sure hope so - and can't wait to see Bo - heard he'd been looking a little bad since he's had some health problems - hope he's well (and he sure did look good in the audience the other night)....went to the Oyster House the other night and that's now one of their claims to fame....if you can call it that - that Bo sang there before he became famous.....they need to get t-shirts that read "Bo Sang Here" (but then of course awburn fans would think it was Bo Jackson)....ha ha

Speaking of twitching and "feeling the music" anyone here ever see Johnny Lang play guitar? That joker looks like he is constantly smelling something bad but his playing is simply amazing. Same with Hendrix, SRV, etc. Those guys just ooze music. WHile Taylor is nowhere in the same universe, he is one of those types of musicians.

I love this thread and all of your comments. It makes a great companion to watching the show. I must say I’m bummed that I can’t join you all as this show is unfolding, though. But I’m on Mountain time, so I’m an hour or so behind you. So, I’m gonna have to post my $.02, all in one post to catch up with ya’ll:

First off, I think the guys have it over the girls, this year.

And so far, of the girls, my favorites are:

McPhee did good with her song and has impressed me since her first showing. I like her sultry look about her.

Mandisa always rocks it and I really think she’ll go far. She has a great strong voice and performs well.

Tucker, although her song choice this week kind of sucked (I am not for the ballads), she is a great singer and you can tell she’s comfortable performing.

Paris, has a great singing voice (and yes her talking voice is somewhat irritating). The song choices she’s been picking though have been not so good and she needs to find what fits her (like songs she sang during her auditions) and she’ll get higher up on people lists, I think.

I'm not to keen on Melissa. Although I like her husky voice, she doesn’t perform well and hasn’t picked any good songs.

And as for Kellie, although she can sing well, I don’t think she’s as good as McPhee, Mandisa, Tucker or even Paris. Not to mention that she is just another version of Carrie. And while I totally loved Carrie, I just think this year someone with a different style should win.

Ayla and Kinnik I predict will get booted tonight (or at least I hope they do). Even though they can sing, neither of them have the caliber to move on in this competition, IMO. And is it me or do Kinniks lips annoy anyone else too?

As for the guys, my favorites are:

Chris is still one of my favs, however last night I don’t think he did so well. I find the one thing about his style/voice is that it’s the same with everything he sings. And to me, that can get old. Look at Fuel or any of the bands out nowadays, pretty much all their songs sound the same (even the bands sound the same as other bands). Hopefully he’ll pick something like he did last week or the week before and come out better. But if he keeps doing like he did last night, I just don’t see the variety and I for one, won’t go for that. We’ll see. He’s still good and can perform well.

Elliott is good and has a great voice. He just needs more charisma and a better performance, not to mention a new look. If he could liven up his stage presence and change his look, he could really fly.

Not my favs, but I still like:

Ace aced it with his performance last night. I really liked it a lot. His last few performances were kind of too femme for my taste and it kind of turned me off to him. But he can sing and gives a good performance (with sultry looks and all). And after hearing his performance last night, I changed my mind and now think he may go farther. Song choices make it or break it.

Bucky, oh Bucky. Last night he did good and I liked his song choice. He does sing well and have a good voice. He needs to do something, desperately, with his look though. The performances and songs before last night didn’t do anything for me and I was hoping he’d get voted off soon. I'm still unsure about him.

Gedeon, or “teeth” as you all have nicknamed him here, I’m not too sure about. Although I liked his last performance, his other ones, including last night, weren’t so good. He can sing, and when he finds the right style, does well. But his look/smile is bothersome and he doesn’t perform well, IMO. He could go either way for me.

Taylor , unlike the majority it seems, I do NOT like this guy at all. Of course, I can’t stand who he mostly emulates either (MacDonald, Cocker), so that plays a big part for me. He does have a good voice, but he’s a spaz when he performs and that whole movement he does, really bothers me. As someone once commented, where’s the chair? As for his look, I’m not even going to go there…

I think Will will get voted off tonight. It’s a shame because I like him, but he’s just not star quality. He sings well and is kind of cute (in a boyish way), but not as good as the others in the top. My niece goes to school and is friends with him, which I think is kind of cool. I’m glad he was able to make it this far though.

I also think Kevin will get voted off tonight. I haven’t like him since day one and I’ll be SO happy when he goes. His whole image is not star quality, not to mention that although he can sing, it’s not very well and that lisp is too obvious and gets in the way, IMO, of making the song good. And by the way, being cute is NOT being a sex object. WTF?

And could Simon be more obvious about who he wants to win? I love his comments though, he makes AI. And I especially love the banter between him and Ryan and him and Paula. I just with Randy would get over the whole, "Yo Dog" thing, THAT is annoying.
