for Tammy
Taylor has more REAL musicianship in one pinkie than that poser Ace has in his entire Gap-Ad body. That said, Ace will survive a few more rounds because he is cute. But like Constantine, sooner or later the preening gets old and he will bow out to better performers and singers, be it Hicks or Chris or Elliot. Definitely think the guys are far better and deeper than the gals this year.
Agreed, Kevin Little and Will are gone tomorrow. Mushmouth (Bucky) skates by.
AI was entertaining enough tonight that I watched it a second time.
Tough for me to rank the performances tonight.
Taylor--The most entertaining, but it wasn't the best singing. Hoping he's saving his best for the weeks to come.
Elliot--Still the best voice in the competition, but I didn't like the song very much.
Gedeon--He's good at singing the kind of stuff he's done this week and last week.
Chris--Didn't think the song played to his strengths but at least provided a break for him from doing the same thing every week. May work out okay for him in the long run.
Bucky--Not bad, but it still probably won't save him.
Kevin--Thought he actually made that work for him.
Will--Nice voice but no charisma nor even any offbeat oddness appeal that some of the other contestants have.
Ace--Absolutely hate that type of performance.
AI has a problem this year. The ones who are good aren't very marketable(although some have niche market potential), and the ones who are marketable aren't very good. I think that this is most apparent on the men's side but also somewhat true for the women, as well. Still thinking it's Bucky and Will that will be leaving. Think Kinnik is gone for sure and probably Melissa.
West Coast wrap up! (If I can manage to type over my 18 pound cat who insists that I hoooooooold him ....)
Gedeon: He's growing on me, too. Still has a scary smile, but he's one talented 18-year-old. You have to remember that an 18 year old woman and an 18 year old man are not the same thing. The woman is more or less physically complete, almost all growth done, etc. Men keep growing and maturing (especially their voices) all the way up to 25. I don't think he will win since he seems to be stuck in a time warp, but I do see a real career for him.
Chris: Not the best choice of song, but I agree with whoever said he was like a Porsche creeping through a school zone. Lots of power there, just not being used at the moment. I'd buy an album by this guy. (Yeah, okay, and drool over the cover pic. Just a little. :) Is anyone here familiar with a French Canadian singer named Garou? Similar voice. Maybe mixed with a little Billy Joel and Joe Cocker.
Kevin: Oh, honey, puh-leeze ... you need about five more years on you, and a speech therapist for that lateral lisp. Then we'll talk.
Bucky: Wow, the identical twin thing was startling. Unfortunately, his song was not. Desperately needs infusion of stage presence.
Will: Eek. That was just ... unfortunate. I hope the 11 year old girl lobby was not voting in force tonight.
Taylor: Lordamercy! Sounded great ... but I was laughing my a$$ off through the second half of the song. WHAT were those antics of his? He was completely spastic! But I'll give him this, at least he was alive! LOL!
Elliot: Gotta say I'm getting annoyed with you, dude. You *could* possibly win this thing ... if you can pick the right freakin' songs! That one was NOT it. Try again (if you get the chance, which I hope you will but I'm not sure about).
Ace: Geez, kid, be nice to us old farts (who still appreciate a killer smile) and get rid of that awful beanie! Yikes. And that falsetto had me climbing the walls. Not his best effort.
In summation, I'm thinking Chris and Mandisa are the ones to beat. Granted, she's immense, but she has such a great personal and stage presence that it just doesn't matter that much. Even if she doesn't win, I see a very good career for her. I'd like to say that Elliot is the one to beat, but he is currently beating himself, with those song selections.
ROFLMAO! and EEEEK! I'm wiping spittle off my keyboard, thanks to you .... :)

Did you notice that Ace kept touching himself while singing, running his hands over his body. I think he gives himself butterflies!

As I mentioned with the ladies, last week, the two that left came out of the bottom 4, for both the men and the women. So, being third or fourth from the bottom wasn't necessarily a good thing last week.
Some strange numbers from that DialIdol website that tries to predict how contestants are doing based on the percentage of busy signals...

I think your dreamy eyes for him have taken away from your ability to hear. He butchered that song. He missed most of the falsetto notes and just murdered the rest.
Unfortunately, there are a ton of people like you that fall for marketing and packaging and don't give a rip about musical ability and artistry. That is the the tru downfall of this show is that it is a popularity contest aimed at doe eyed tween girls. But they buy the records so the producers could give a crap about finding the next great artist. Just show 'em the money and they'll keep churning out cookie cutter, boring, unoriginal, formulaic money. They just love people like you. More power to them for proving P.T. Barnum was right and making a boat load of cash in the process...
Just my humble opinion of course...;-)
Dead on accurate. Agree 100%. It will be interesting to see if "America" pick artistry and ability over a pretty face and marketing. I "hope" but fear I will continue to be underwhelmed by what the public considers good music. And yes, I am a music snob...;-)
They smell blood in the water and they hate Bush as much as the liberals do.
Hey! You are unfortunately right. one reason I haven't been hanging out here much lately. It's like listening to Michael Savage's show. It just makes one ill.
I didn't attribute it to VFTW. I attributed it to the sympathy vote because Simon is so hard on him.
Taylor did well last night! We may have another Bama idol. :) Oh and Bo performs tonight!!!
Gedeon - growing on me too. I thought he did "a'ight" but I'm not sure he's playing in Peoria so to speak. I think he might go but shouldn't.
Chris - I know a lot here didn't like the song but I thought it was very good. It's a more ballady type of alt.rock song that I thought he sang well. It was very controlled and you can feel the power he's holding back. He can sing and it will be unleashed. I still have to wonder how he will handle the ridiculous theme nights.
Chicken Little - yikes! That was not good at all. He should go but I have a feeling VFTW will save his bacon...
Bucky - Well, he didn't suck. I thought it was his best performance to date but that's akin to being the worlds tallest midget. He might stay because others were worse/not likeable enough.
Will - Just not good. I like JT but that was an awful rendition. He'll need the 10 and 12 year old vote too...
Taylor - best vocal? No. But that joker is a performer. You can't help but watch him. He has so much passion for what he does that he is an absolute joy to watch. He is an artist.
Elliot - I'm sorry but I just don't get him. He's better than most but I must be missing it. He should make it through with ease though.
Big Gay Ace - wow. That was not good. He murdered the falsetto and just wasn't good on the rest. But he will prove that P.T. Barnum was right.....
Top 2: Taylor and Chris
Middle: Elliot, Gedeon, Bucky
Bottom 3: Will, Chicken Little and BGA
Who should go home? Will and Chicken Little.
Who will go home? Will and Gedeon.
Elliot has a nice voice though. He is still one of my favorites. Between him, Chris, Taylor and Mandisa this season will be really good. :)
You know, some people don't hate Corvais. He wasn't the worst last night. Ace was. Corvais wasn't even second worse last night.
I think he got so many votes because 1) Simon is always rough on him and 2) some people actually like his voice. He didn't do as bad a job with that song as I thought he might. Oh, and I voted for him tons last night because he wasn't the worst and I knew Taylor would be safe already. JMO
